We’re Pod – one of the UK’s leading EV charging providers, trusted by over 250,000 customers and powering more than 5 million miles every single day. We’ve grown from Pod Point to the next evolution of Pod, now part of the EDF family, and we’re leading the way into a smarter energy future. In 2026 we welcomed EO Charging into the Pod family, expanding our commercial fleet and energy management capabilities to help logistics, transport and operational fleet customers electrify at scale. Pod is here to help build a brighter future for society by managing the flow of energy, making it affordable, accessible, and for the benefit of everyone. We’re building the next generation of connected EV charging technology, and this role sits at the heart of that journey.

You’ll work on complex, real‑world embedded systems used at scale, collaborating closely with talented engineers across hardware and software. We’re looking for someone who enjoys solving challenging problems, takes ownership of what they build, and wants to make a tangible impact as we evolve our platform and technology.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Design and deliver embedded software – design, build, debug and test embedded software for Pod’s hardware platforms, ensuring reliability, performance and quality at every stage.
  • Own features end‑to‑end – scope and deliver software features across new and existing products, contributing to system architecture and ensuring solutions are scalable and fit for purpose.
  • Collaborate across hardware and electronics – work closely with the electronics team to support new designs, adapt existing systems and diagnose hardware‑related issues.
  • Integrate modern connectivity and IoT technologies – integrate peripherals into a mature embedded Linux environment, working with technologies such as Thread, Matter, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth and cellular IoT.
  • Drive technical quality and best practices – contribute to strong engineering practices including technical design documentation, version control and CI/CD, helping improve how we build and deliver software.
  • Support and mentor others – mentor junior engineers through code reviews, coaching and active participation in team planning, helping raise the overall capability of the team.
  • Contribute to system architecture evolution – help shape and evolve the overall software architecture, ensuring it remains scalable, maintainable and aligned with future product goals.
  • Drive debugging and root cause analysis – investigate complex issues across the hardware and software stack, identifying root causes and implementing robust, long‑term fixes.
  • Support product lifecycle and continuous improvement – contribute across the full product lifecycle, from early development through to release and iteration, continuously improving performance, reliability and user experience.

What you’ll bring:

  • Embedded software experience – solid experience in embedded software engineering, ideally within consumer IoT or connected devices.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals – strong understanding of modern development practices, including system design, version control and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Relevant technical background – degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Structured and delivery‑focused approach – organised, detail‑oriented and able to deliver high‑quality work in a structured way.
  • Strong communication skills – able to explain complex technical concepts clearly to a range of audiences.
  • Positive, proactive mindset – bring energy, ownership and a collaborative approach to problem solving.

Bonus Skills:

  • Experience with Embedded Linux development, including Yocto, device tree and system‑level components.
  • Proficiency in C, C++ or Rust for low‑level systems programming.
  • Experience working with boards, SDKs, toolchains, debugging environments and platform bring‑up.
  • Knowledge of EV standards and protocols such as IEC 61851, ISO 15118 and OCPP; experience building CI systems, including hardware‑in‑the‑loop and software testing.
  • Familiarity with IoT and cybersecurity standards such as EN 303 645 and EN 18031.
