About the role

George Street supports young people, predominantly between the ages of 16-18, who have typically led very difficult lives. Often, they’ve spent their childhood and adolescence in Local Authority care, experiencing many changes of home environment including different residential and foster homes.

The people we support are all Care Leavers who have involvement with Social Services. Many have experienced significant trauma brought on by abuse and neglect in early years. As a result, we work with young people who display a range of complex behaviours including attachment disorders, personality disorders, self-harm and parasuicide, risk taking behaviour, alcohol and substance misuse and offending behaviour.

Day to day duties include:

  • Oversee the running of the service including health and safety, on-going maintenance and neighbour relationships.
  • Be responsible for the management of all staff including regular supervisions, training and development, HR procedures and recruitment and induction
  • Be responsible for the annual budget and monitoring the service’s income
  • Ensure that advice is given on welfare rights, permanent housing options and other associated information according to the needs and wishes of the clients.
  • Ensure that clients receive resettlement advice as and when appropriate to address their move-on needs.
  • Monitor the service and produce and amend procedures as appropriate
  • Build relationships and liaise with local neighbourhoods, businesses, commissioners, and council

Skills and Experience Needed

  • Previous experience working within a support environment
  • Good understanding of leadership and management principles
  • Ability to supervise, motivate and develop staff
  • Strong written skills with the ability to produce clear, concise and accurate reports
  • Confident in liaising and negotiating effectively to resolve issues and challenges
  • Knowledge of homelessness issues and Young People
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Psychological Environment framework
