Summary

We are looking for difference makers in our Independent Living Services in Newport and surrounding areas. As a Support Worker you will be working as part of our community Independent Living Services, supporting individuals in their own homes and in the community. This is a 30‑hour, permanent position.

Hours can vary from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm with the occasional need for sleep‑in. This is an exciting and rewarding career opportunity. If you are passionate about making a positive difference and enjoy working with truly inspiring people, we would love to hear from you!

About The Role

As a Support Worker you will work with incredible individuals to support with day‑to‑day tasks, developing independence, enhancing their various skills, and providing emotional support, developing social skills and community activities, general and domestic skills, independence and quality of life.

The individuals we support have different personalities with different likes and hobbies. You could be joining the people we support in going on long walks in the countryside, dancing to music, watching films, and going out and about in the community or to visit loved ones. By being part of this team, you would play an influential role in enabling the people we support to lead fulfilling and independent lives and see first‑hand how you make a difference to them.

You will be expected to support with daily aspects of living, including:

  • Medication administration
  • Cooking skills and other household skills
  • Accessing the community and supporting to local groups
  • Supporting with individuals’ hobbies and activities
  • Being a team player and having good communication skills
  • Completing relevant paperwork to a high standard
  • Supporting individuals to budget finances
  • Providing companionship through talking about their interests and wellbeing
  • Encouraging the supported individuals to take part in activities that enhance their life skills and promote independence
  • Taking the people we support out and about – a full UK driving licence is essential for this role
  • Encouraging and supporting with cleaning and administrative duties
  • Bringing fresh ideas to the team and implementing different ways of working
  • Supporting individuals with their individual needs

Skills And Experience Needed

A background of working with people with physical or mental health needs is desired, but not necessary as full training and support from senior staff and management are provided. More important are:

  • A passion to work with and enable people to live as independent a life as possible
  • An enthusiasm and passion for making a difference to people’s lives
  • A strong initiative and ability to work alone as well as being a great team player
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is required

Pay and Pensions

  • £25,877 FTE (£13.45 per hour)
  • Sleep‑in rate: £62.64 per 8‑hour shift – approx. 1 per week.
  • Enhanced DBS which we will pay for
  • Social Care Wales registration is fully reimbursed

    • Defined Benefit (DB) 1/80 th of final salary for every year of service

  • 26 days holiday, pro‑rata entitlement plus bank holidays. Rising to 27 days after 1 year of service or cash equivalent of 1 day’s annual leave.
