As our Community Development Assistant, you’ll play a hands-on role in bringing The Hive to life — supporting local people, volunteers, and groups to shape vibrant, welcoming, and community-led activity. This role, which is proudly funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, is all about building relationships and helping create a space where everyone feels valued and included. From supporting activities and coordinating volunteers, to ensuring the space runs safely and smoothly, you’ll be a vital part of a team making a real difference. If you’re friendly, proactive, and passionate about empowering communities, we’d love you to be part of our journey.
This is an 18-month fixed-term role, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, working 37 hours per week. You’ll play an important role in supporting the day-to-day running of The Hive. The Hive operates Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, and the majority of your hours will be based on-site, with only occasional evening or weekend work required. You’ll play a vital hands-on role in coordinating sessions, preparing spaces, supporting the kitchen and food offer, and working alongside colleagues to keep the centre clean, organised, and compliant. You’ll also help recruit, guide, and support volunteers, building their confidence and skills as part of our growing community network.
This role is perfect for someone who thrives in people-focused, community-driven environments — someone friendly, proactive, organised, and passionate about helping individuals and groups build on their strengths. We’re looking for someone who brings hands-on experience from community or customer-facing roles, with confidence supporting activities, programmes, or group sessions. Experience working with or alongside volunteers is essential, and any background in community food projects or supporting people facing disadvantage or barriers would be highly beneficial. You’ll be friendly, approachable, and community-minded, with the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with customers and volunteers. Strong organisational skills are a must, along with the ability to manage day-to-day priorities in a busy environment. You’ll have confident written and verbal communication skills and solid IT skills for record-keeping. You’ll hold a relevant qualification in community development, youth work, or bring equivalent transferable experience. Food preparation or food hygiene training is desirable, but not essential as we can offer this training!
At Codi, our values are Compassionate, Authentic, and Progressive. When you join us, you’ll embrace these principles and thrive in an environment shaped by them.
