We’re looking for passionate and supportive Employability Work Coaches to join our new Green Careers Pathway Project on a Part Time basis– helping young people (aged 16–30) in Newport and Swansea explore and access jobs that make a difference to the environment and their communities. This 5-year post is funded by Dormant Assets Sustainable Steps Wales. You’ll be working with young people – guiding them, building confidence, developing skills, and supporting their journey into green careers.

What’s great about the role?

  • You’ll work directly with young people to build confidence, develop life and work skills, and unlock career pathways in the green economy.
  • You’ll support individuals from all backgrounds – especially those who’ve been underrepresented – including women, ethnic minority communities and people with disabilities.
  • You’ll help design and deliver engaging workshops and 1:1 coaching to improve employability, green knowledge and job readiness.
  • You’ll organise placements and volunteering that give real-world experience and open doors into green jobs.
  • You’ll build strong relationships with employers, training providers, colleges and community partners.
  • You’ll offer ongoing support for up to a year after placement – helping participants stay in work, grow, and succeed long-term.
  • You’ll be part of a compassionate, values-led team that supports flexible working and welcomes diversity in all its forms.

Where does this role fit in?

You’ll report to the Inclusion and Assistive Technology Officer within our Care Services team, and you will support young people receiving care and support from Pobl. You’ll work one to one with individuals to build confidence, develop life and employment skills, and explore green career pathways that align with their interests and potential. You’ll collaborate closely with other Employability Work Coaches, Placement Coordinators, and work alongside colleagues across housing and regeneration to provide a joined-up, person-centred approach. Your role is a key part of helping young people in care move towards meaningful, sustainable employment – making a positive difference to both people and the planet.

What skills and experience do you need?

We’re looking for someone who has experience supporting young people who may have faced additional barriers and takes a coaching, strengths-based approach to help them build confidence and realise their potential. You’ll need strong communication and relationship-building skills, along with the ability to plan, organise and support people through change. An understanding of community development, employability, or green skills is important, and above all, you’ll bring a positive, inclusive and empathetic mindset. It’s a bonus if you’ve delivered one-to-one or group support before, have knowledge of green jobs or sustainability, or bring lived experience or a strong understanding of the challenges young people face today.
