Join us to lead and shape our Group Health & Safety function as the organisation’s appointed Competent Person. In this pivotal role, you’ll set the strategic direction while ensuring excellence in everyday delivery, championing a strong, positive safety culture across our properties, customers and workforce. You’ll drive continuous improvement by designing and embedding robust Health & Safety strategies, systems and assurance frameworks that go beyond compliance. Leading and inspiring a skilled team, you’ll provide high‑quality, pragmatic advice in line with the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations, CDM Regulations, the Building Safety Act (Wales), Renting Homes (Wales), and all relevant statutory requirements—helping the organisation manage risk confidently while keeping people safe.
Codi is a not-for-profit with a big heart and an even bigger mission. As Wales’ largest provider of housing, care, and support, we’re here to help people live well, feel supported, and rise to their full potential. We look after almost 25,000 homes across Wales and are gearing up to build more than 4,500 new ones in the next five years. Every day, our teams support nearly 17,000 individuals with services that make a real and uplifting difference to people’s everyday lives. With over 3,000 passionate colleagues, Codi is a major player in the Welsh economy—powered by strong partnerships, shared values, and a genuine love for helping communities thrive.
This full‑time, permanent role offers the flexibility of agile working and the opportunity to drive real, lasting impact on Health & Safety across the whole Group. Working closely with the Group Property & Health & Safety Director, you’ll drive our strategy, strengthen governance, and ensure we stay ahead of legislation and best practice. You will lead the Health & Safety function, delivering high-quality, compliant services across our diverse environments — from corporate offices and homes to care, support, trades and community settings. You’ll also play a vital part in incident response — acting as an out-of-hours contact for serious events — and work collaboratively with regulators including HSE, Fire & Rescue and Local Authorities.
We’re looking for an accomplished senior Health & Safety leader with a strong track record in complex, multi‑site organisations—ideally within housing, care or the public sector—who thrives in environments where safety, compliance and culture truly matter. You’ll be confident operating at executive level, providing clear, credible assurance to Executive Teams and Boards, and offering sound judgement, insight and challenge when it counts most. A natural, people‑centred leader, you’ll have experience leading multi‑disciplinary Health & Safety teams, driving meaningful cultural change, elevating performance and building long‑term capability across an organisation. You’ll bring strong expertise in CDM, building safety and property compliance, with proven experience overseeing safe systems of work, contractor assurance and compliance‑driven operations within complex environments. You’ll also hold a degree‑level Health & Safety qualification—such as an MSc, NCRQ Level 6 or NEBOSH Diploma—providing the professional credibility and technical foundation required to lead at this level. Above all, you’ll be motivated by influence, improvement and making a real difference—bringing confidence, integrity and a genuine passion for keeping people safe.
At Codi, our values are Compassionate, Authentic, and Progressive. When you join us, you’ll embrace these principles and thrive in an environment shaped by them.
