Overview

We have an exciting opportunity where you can truly make a difference. We’re looking for a confident and passionate chef to create delicious and nutritious meals for our valued tenants in EXTRA CARE SERVICE in FAIRWATER, CARDIFF. As ASSISTANT CHEF you will play a key role in the catering team, supporting to make mealtimes something for the residents to look forward to. This is a part time (30 hour) permanent position, working 5 days per week (including bank holidays) with every other weekend off. Shift times vary and depend on what’s best for the scheme, with most shifts ending by 3pm. This role offers a positive impact through great food and care for residents.

About The Role

Plas Bryn is an Extra Care scheme for residents with care or support needs that blends the freedom of independent living with on-site support. There are 40 self-contained flats for residents. This is a lovely place to work with stunning views of the city and Vale of Glamorgan.

As Assistant Chef, you’ll create delicious, nutritious meals for our tenants each day, sourcing fresh ingredients and ensuring top Health & Safety standards. You’ll support the catering team and design menus that cater to cultural and dietary needs, making mealtimes something everyone looks forward to.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing and delivering nutritious meals for residents in line with dietary needs and cultural preferences.
  • Source fresh ingredients and maintain high standards of food hygiene and safety.
  • Support the catering team in menu planning, stock control, HACCP records, and budgeting.
  • Maintain a clean, well-organised kitchen and ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with Service Manager, food service assistants, and tenants to deliver a positive dining experience.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Great communicator with a friendly and approachable manner.
  • Kitchen experience in a professional fresh-food environment and a basic catering qualification (QCF/NVQ Level 2 or equivalent).
  • Organised and detail-focused with experience in menu planning, stock control, HACCP, food hygiene, and budgeting.
  • Team player with a positive, supportive, and inclusive attitude.

  • Annual salary of £25,056 (FTE).
