We are seeking an experienced and motivated Electrical Design Engineer to join our growing Pre-Construction Department. The role involves the design, development, and coordination of electrical building services systems across a range of projects, from concept through to completion. The successful candidate will work closely with project teams, clients, and other engineering disciplines to deliver high-quality, compliant electrical designs, while supporting junior team members and contributing to continuous improvement within the department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and develop electrical design solutions in accordance with project briefs, applicable standards, and client requirements
- Produce and coordinate electrical design drawings and specifications, including:
- LV power distribution
- Lighting and emergency lighting systems
- Small power
- Containment layouts
- Schedules and schematics
- Undertake and review electrical calculations
- Ensure designs comply with relevant standards and regulations, including BS 7671 and project-specific requirements
- Coordinate electrical designs with other building services disciplines and architectural layouts
- Attend client, design, and coordination meetings as required
- Respond to technical queries during design development and construction phases
- Support the preparation of technical reports and design documentation
- Provide guidance and support to Junior Engineers and CAD Technicians
- Ensure compliance with internal processes, quality standards, and health & safety requirements
Project Involvement:
The Electrical Design Engineer will be involved throughout the full project lifecycle, including:
- Concept and feasibility design
- Detailed and technical design
- Tender and construction information
- Design coordination and construction support
Projects may include commercial, residential, industrial, healthcare, education, or public sector developments.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Degree (or equivalent qualification) in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Building Services Engineering
- Electrical & Electronic Engineering
- Proven experience in electrical building services design
- Strong working knowledge of electrical building services systems
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Good understanding of UK electrical regulations and standards
- Ability to manage own workload and meet project deadlines
- Strong communication and coordination skills
Desirable:
- Proficiency in Revit software
