About the Company

PMC is a world leader in high-end audio, crafting premium loudspeaker systems relied on by major recording studios and audiophiles globally. We are looking for an enthusiastic Junior Product Designer to join our R&D team. This entry-level role is tailored for a promising designer who wants to bridge the gap between aesthetic form, mechanical design, and development coordination.

Purpose of the Role:

In this position, you will gain hands-on experience with the entire lifecycle of hardware product development - following projects from the initial sketch pad right through to assembly line deployment. Working alongside our senior design team, you will help translate industrial and mechanical concepts into reality, collaborating closely with acoustics and electronics specialists to package their technology into a refined, high-performance product. You’ll also interface with our manufacturing supply chain to ensure material specs, tolerances, and target costings are maintained from early prototypes to final manufacturing runs.

If you are a detail-oriented problem solver with a genuine love for design and an eagerness to learn how world-class audio equipment is built, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop hardware products from initial concepts through to final production-ready assemblies.
  • Research user interaction and ergonomics to ensure our equipment remains intuitive and functional.
  • Create initial concept sketches.
  • Build precise 3D CAD models and detailed technical drawings.
  • Collaborate with acoustic and electronic engineers to produce a cohesive, balanced, high-performance product.
  • Construct and evaluate physical prototypes to test fit, form, and mechanical function.
  • Assess different manufacturing techniques to optimize component cost and build quality.
  • Apply DfMA principles to simplify assembly steps and minimize part counts.
  • Compile accurate Bills of Materials (BoMs) and monitor component costs.
  • Keep track of project milestones and flag potential risks to keep launch schedules on target.

Essential Requirements

  • A degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • A keen eye for industrial design, with an appreciation for how material choices and finishes drive perceived luxury.
  • Strong fundamentals in 3D CAD modelling.
  • Ability to produce accurate 2D technical drawings, including detailed annotations of tolerances, materials, and finishes.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes like CNC routing/milling, injection moulding, sheet metal, and high-end woodwork.
  • An understanding of Design for Manufacture (DfMA) concepts aimed at streamlined assembly line production.
  • Excellent organizational skills with an interest in learning project management, scheduling, and budget tracking.
  • A rigorous, highly structured approach to problem-solving and an uncompromising eye for detail.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the capability to drive independent tasks or collaborate smoothly in a team.
  • Valid UK driving license & your own car.
  • Full rights to work in the UK.
  • Live within a daily commutable distance of our Biggleswade office (SG18 9ST).

Desirable Additional Attributes

  • Interest or experience in audio or music.
  • Experience in 3D rendering.
  • Knowledge of high-end joinery or cabinetry techniques.

Hours & Location

Full-time (37.5 hours per week). Schedule: Monday to Thursday 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM; Friday 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM. Location: Based on-site at our Biggleswade (Bedfordshire) office, with occasional visits to our manufacturing site in Luton. After successful completion of probation period, the role can be carried out with 1 day a week working from home. This provision will be subject to the requirements of the work and during busy periods you may be required to be in the office 5 days a week.

Benefits

  • 23 Days Holiday Per Annum, increasing by one day per year up to a maximum of 25 (in addition to public and bank holidays).
  • Company pension scheme.
