About the Company

PMC designs and manufactures world-class audio systems, trusted globally by iconic recording studios and the most discerning music lovers alike. We are seeking a talented Product Designer who balances industrial design, mechanical integrity and project management to join our development team.

Purpose of the role:

As a Product Designer at PMC, your role will span the complete product lifecycle – taking projects from initial concept through to final production. You will be responsible for leading the industrial and mechanical design, collaborating closely with our acoustic and electronic engineers to integrate their expertise into a cohesive and refined design. Engaging with suppliers to ensure that material specifications, manufacturing tolerances, product quality and cost efficiencies are strictly maintained from the first prototype to the final build is a key aspect of the role, as is coordination of the project schedule to ensure that key milestones are achieved in line with the overall development timeline.

A successful candidate will display excellent creative problem-solving skills, a passion for design, and the determination to uphold the principles of quality that PMC’s reputation is built upon.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop hardware products from initial concepts through to final production-ready assemblies.
  • Conduct research to ensure products are intuitive, ergonomic, and aligned with the needs of our customers.
  • Create initial concept sketches with a premium visual appeal and present these effectively to stakeholders.
  • Produce precise technical drawings and 3D CAD models for manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with acoustic and electronic engineers to produce a cohesive, balanced, high-performance product.
  • Build and test physical prototypes to validate design intent, fit, and function.
  • Select appropriate manufacturing processes to ensure manufacturability, quality and cost efficiency.
  • Apply DfMA principles to optimise designs for consistent quality and efficient production.
  • Create and maintain accurate Bill of Materials (BoM) and costings.
  • Proactively track timelines and identify risks to ensure launch schedules are achieved.

Essential Requirements

  • 3 years experience in a Product Design or Mechanical Engineering role, ideally within the consumer electronics, luxury goods, or high-end audio sectors.
  • Experience taking complex mechanical products from initial "blue-sky" concepts through to production.
  • A strong industrial design vision with an understanding of how to use materials, finish and form to enhance perceived product value.
  • 3D CAD modelling skills for development of creative concepts (ideally Solidworks).
  • Ability to produce accurate 2D technical drawings, including detailed annotations of tolerances, materials, and finishes.
  • A deep understanding of diverse manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, injection moulding, metal fabrication, and woodworking.
  • Practical experience applying Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) principles to reduce part counts, simplify assembly, and ensure consistent production quality.
  • Experience engaging directly with external manufacturers to source components.
  • Proficiency managing project budgets, schedules & BOM costs with a good sense prioritisation.
  • Excellent analytical skills and a desire to complete tasks in a thorough, rigorous manner with a high attention to detail.
  • Highly motivated and self-sufficient, with the ability to work independently or within a team.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Based in the UK with full right to work.

Desirable Additional Attributes

  • An understanding of audio principles (acoustics, audio electronics).
  • Proficiency in 3D rendering software.
  • Knowledge of high-end cabinetry/joinery processes.
  • Adobe Illustrator.
