We are seeking aMobile Forklift Engineer/Mechanical Handling Field Service Engineerto join our clients team of southern-based engineers, covering postcodes across Croydon and South London. This full-time role will involve maintaining, repairing, servicing, and modifying a range of material handling equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Service, maintain, and overhaul material handling products
- Perform fault-finding and repairs on gas, diesel, and electric-powered forklift trucks
- Carry out routine maintenance tasks (checking brakes, lifting assembly, steering, oil/filter changes)
- Preventative maintenance (lubricating steering and lifting equipment)
- Battery maintenance (voltage and fluid checks using meters and hydrometers)
- Respond to breakdowns and minimize customer downtime
- Maintain excellent customer relationships
- Complete documentation to company standards and liaise with the parts team
- Work on mobile machinery (brakes, steering, wheels, lift chains, etc.)
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with electrical drive systems, diesel/LPG engines, hydraulics, and common drive-trains
Qualifications & Skills Required:
- Full UK driving license
- Previous experience working on manual handling equipment/forklifts
- Strong diagnostic computer skills
- Experience in heavy goods, plant machinery, automotive, or similar industries (e.g., agricultural, REME, HGV, PSV, construction)
- Ability to work unsupervised and respond to breakdowns efficiently
- Experience with electrical/mechanical engineering in machinery is essential
