Who we’re looking for

Plymouth Marjon has a proud 30-year history of graduating speech and language therapists, and we are ready to welcome a new member of staff to our team. Following significant investment, Marjon has opened a state-of-the-art Health, Education and Practice centre on the university campus. This includes purpose-built teaching and clinic spaces for a range of health services. The successful candidate will be an HCPC/RCSLT registered speech and language therapist who has successfully completed their NQP competencies.

The role will include both clinical work in the Marjon SLT clinic and an opportunity to join our dedicated team of academics delivering the curriculum to our undergraduate students and apprentices. Our specialist SLT clinic uses a pioneering model of service delivery both on-site and in the community. We offer a person-led service that is responsive to individual and contracted service need. At its heart is the innovative, flexible student placement education provision to students across the SLT programme. These opportunities include both formal placements and voluntary work. We have a well-established history of integrating speech & language therapy provision into specialist provision including schools, social care and alternative provisions.

As part of the university’s expanding School of Health, we secured funding to develop the Southwest’s first highly specialist ultrasound service for differential diagnosis and bio-feedback in speech disorders. The postholder will need to be flexible as the split between clinic and lecturing duties will vary across the year. An ability to work independently to manage your own diary for clinic and lecturing duties is essential. The post holder will be required to demonstrate excellent interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills. This appointment is subject to an enhanced level children and adults barred list disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

What you’d be doing

This post will support the provision of speech and language therapy pre-registration education at Plymouth Marjon and will be part of our growing School of Health and Wellbeing which includes other AHP and Nursing programmes. The post-holder will work as part of the SLT Clinic team to further develop and deliver high quality SLT Provision to clinic users and excellent clinical placement experience to SLT students. The post-holder will also undertake some lecturing duties to include preparation and delivery of teaching including assessment tasks. It is expected that the post holder will be a practitioner who has remained up to date with the profession by engaging in continuing professional development and is currently or recently practising.

You’ll need to enjoy:

  • Working closely with students, academic and professional colleagues.
  • Supporting students’ professional development.
  • Working with students and service users in delivering high quality SLT service to the local community.
  • Being responsive and flexible.
  • Thinking creatively.
  • Being solution focused.
  • Communicating with others.
  • Working to your values: we care about how people behave as well as what they achieve.

Where you’ll work

In this role, you’ll be based in the SLT team, on our green campus in the north of Plymouth and will be required to work both on and off site.
