Job Summary

To be responsible for delivering the organisations education strategy, optimising learning and development opportunities to support a collaborative multi-professional workforce.

To provide educational management and leadership to promote the learning culture to deliver best practice to support all learners within a high quality learning environment.

To promote joint working with other clinical educators to provide a core group of educators crossing the whole spectrum of services at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.

Provide clinical management, leadership and expertise in all aspects of service delivery.

The post holder will be the lead for clinical education for the Urgent Treatment Centres and Minor Injury Units. Working with and accountable to the Matron for the service, the post holder will provide professional leadership for the continued development of practitioners, nurses, allied health professionals, students, support workers and the wider workforce. The post holder will liaise with clinical leaders and subject matter experts to ensure clinical staff have the required competencies and skills to deliver safe and effective care to patients, and conform to relevant regulatory, governance and organisational practices.

Main duties of the job:

  1. Support and manage the delivery of corporate and mandatory training for all staff.
  2. Plan, develop, implement, co-ordinate and evaluate educational programmes.
  3. Ensure robust documentation and record-keeping of clinical training delivered or co-ordinated to provide evidence of compliance with NHSLA and CQC standards.
  4. Support and actively teach on the delivery of Trust-wide education and training programmes and initiatives as required e.g. preceptorship, apprenticeships and clinical skills.
  5. Responsible for leading and co-ordinating training and education within the UTCs and MIUs.
  6. Ensure all new staff receive induction/mandatory training and monitor compliance.
  7. Ensure that all staff have necessary mandatory training in relation to high risk/very high-risk medical devices.
  8. Undertake regular training needs analysis to determine education, training and CPD forecast demands.
  9. Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary clinical practice and introduce changes to practice where this is proven to be beneficial and evidence-based.
  10. Awareness of national and local policies and initiatives which impact on the delivery of the service.
  11. Ensure adequate provision of specific formal education programmes in response to identified needs.
  12. Negotiate with professional colleagues to encourage multi-disciplinary training and education.

Job Description

Job responsibilities:

  1. Explore creative, blended solutions to deliver learning and development to teams and individuals.
  2. Manage and co-ordinate clinical education resources to optimise learning opportunities.
  3. Lead and participate in the provision of formal and informal clinical teaching.
  4. Manage the clinical skills development and the provision of co-ordinated training and education for all clinical staff throughout the organisation.
  5. Collate and provide information to ensure training targets and priorities are being met.
  6. Responsible for an identified group of staff, completing individual appraisals and personnel management.
  7. To be responsible for meeting the NMC/HCPC requirements and standards of proficiencies in line with the code of professional conduct for their scope of responsibility.
  8. Lead a structured competency-based induction and training programme for new staff in the UTCs and MIUs through a system of preceptorship and development of supervisors and assessors providing the necessary learning infrastructure.
  9. Co-ordination and planning of study days to support staff professional development.
  10. Collate continuous professional development requirements to facilitate role and service needs working collaboratively with the service leads, Department of Professional Healthcare Education and Deputy Chief Nurse.
  11. Create a quality learning environment to support all learners.
  12. Collaborate with the Clinical Managers within the UTCs/MIUs to identify staff development needs, then design, deliver, identify and organise and audit relevant learning interventions that align with the clinical education strategy and service priorities to enhance patient care, service delivery and employee performance.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential:

  • Achieved Grade / Qualifications NMC / HCPC

Desirable:

  • MSc Education
  • ALS, APLS, TNCC

Knowledge and Experience Essential:

  • Proven knowledge and demonstrable experience / Education or demonstrable coaching experience

Desirable:

  • Management Qualification or demonstrable experience

Education Essential:

  • Previous Experience Implementing Educational initiatives

Desirable:

  • MTS Instructor
