The predicted salary is between 25000 - 35000 £ per year.

The PFSA provides a voice for the range of local fishing interests. We support local fisheries and the community by promoting and increasing access to local sustainable seafood. We have over 80 members spanning commercial, recreational fishermen, fish buyers and sellers and members of the public. The purpose of this role is to increase the capacity of the PFSA and provide an opportunity for a potential new entrant to the fishing industry to gain experience of the range of jobs available at sea and onshore. We also welcome applications from existing fishermen who may be interested in gaining experience of shoreside roles.

The post holder will support the PFSA’s CEO with the running of the organisation and to carry out:

  • Liaison with the fishing industry (fishermen and associated shoreside businesses) to understand their needs and challenges and support their involvement with fisheries management and sustainability initiatives.
  • Promotion and education of local fisheries through activities such as school visits, organising cooking demonstrations, and creating, managing and posting associated media.
  • Support the running of our online fish sales by developing and editing stock listings, responding to customer queries, and working with fishermen to access new products.
  • General development of social media marketing content.
  • Fisheries data entry and collection.
  • Supporting the CEO with any other task as required.

Depending on previous experience the post holder will be provided with:

  • An introduction to fish processing (e.g. filleting and preparation for sale to the public).
  • Hands-on at sea experience onboard local fishing vessel(s).
  • Training in marketing and social media development.
  • An introduction to the harbour operations and fish landing facilities.

The preferred candidate will:

  • Be outgoing and confident with excellent communication skills.
