Plymouth City Council is seeking motivated and resilient Social Workers to join our Families First Front Door service. This is a key frontline role providing a timely, proportionate social work response to referrals concerning vulnerable children, young people and adults. You will play a critical role in early decision-making, safeguarding, and ensuring families and individuals receive the right support at the right time.

About The Role

  • Respond to referrals requiring prompt professional intervention
  • Safeguard children at risk of significant harm in line with the Children Act 1989
  • Safeguard vulnerable adults in line with the Care Act 2014
  • Undertake assessments of need and risk and make defensible decisions
  • Lead or contribute to strategy discussions, safeguarding enquiries and court work
  • Work closely with partner agencies to prevent needs escalating
  • Maintain high‑quality recording and professional analysis

What we’re looking for

  • Hold a recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with the relevant professional body
  • Have post‑qualifying experience in statutory children’s and/or adults’ social work
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of safeguarding legislation and practice
  • Be confident working autonomously, making timely and proportionate decisions
  • Have strong communication, analytical and risk‑management skills
  • Be able to work flexibly, including participation in duty systems
