Lead Practitioners in Plymouth’s Targeted Help Teams

Plymouth City Council’s Family Help Service is recruiting to a new team of Family Help Lead Practitioner roles in our service supporting children to remain with their families.

To apply for these positions, you must be able to demonstrate extensive experience of working directly with children and their families.

Our Targeted Help Teams deliver intensive family support to children and families, preventing problems from escalating further when multiple vulnerabilities are present and family needs are complex.

You will be working creatively and intensively, undertaking assessments and utilising family networks to put in place strengths‑based plans to empower families to effect sustainable change and to enable children to remain with their families.

You will have experience of using evidence‑based interventions and relationship‑based practice to work with families to address multiple and complex needs leading to improved family functioning and improved outcomes for children, including family relationships and school attendance.

The implementation of the Families First Partnership reforms is reshaping how we work with children and families, an exciting time to join Plymouth Children’s Services.

You will be part of a service focussed on delivering the right support for children and families at the right time.

Responsibilities

• Conduct assessments and develop strengths‑based plans to support families and children.
• Utilise family networks and evidence‑based interventions to address complex family needs.
• Work creatively and intensively to prevent problems from escalating.
• Provide high‑standard support to families and maintain communication with children, families, and partners.

Qualifications

• Extensive direct work experience with children and families, in a relevant health, youth work, education or social care setting.
• Strong assessment skills and experience of evidence‑based and relationship‑based interventions.
• Experience in a value‑based practice approach rooted in empathy, kindness and compassion.
• Solid understanding of the Children Act 1989.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, initiative and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work well as part of a team.
• Enhanced DBS check (including Children and Adults barred lists) and a full UK driving licence.
