Are you a highly organised, proactive executive support professional looking to make a real impact at the heart of a dynamic organisation? Plymouth City Council is seeking an exceptional Executive Assistant to support our Chief Operating Officer (COO), based within the Executive Support Team. This is a pivotal role, offering the opportunity to work closely with senior leadership, manage complex schedules, and ensure the smooth running of high‑level operations. You will be the first point of contact for the COO, providing exemplary executive support that is proactive and efficient, delivered with utmost professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Effective inbox management and diary planning for the COO.
  • Coordinate meetings, agendas, briefing documents, and follow‑up actions.
  • Correspondence handling and document filing on behalf of the COO.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear, professional communication and a positive, credible representation of the COO’s office.
  • Assess and evaluate demands, escalating issues appropriately.
  • Provide executive support cover for team members as required.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in delivering executive support to senior leaders in a large, complex organisation.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Confidence in using Microsoft Office 365 and other web‑based systems as required.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and maintain confidentiality.
  • A collaborative team player with a continuous improvement mindset.

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSEs (A*–C / 9–4) in English and Maths or equivalent.
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in business support.
  • Strong understanding of local authority services and leadership structures.
