Plymouth City Council Building Control are looking for an experienced and motivated Principal Registered Building Inspectors to join our dynamic Local Authority Building Control (LABC) team. If you’re passionate about high standards in construction, enjoy working on a wide range of commercial projects, and want to inspire and support a talented team, we would like to hear from you!

About The Role

As a Principal Registered Building Inspector, you’ll play a crucial part in shaping the built environment across Plymouth and promoting the city’s growth. Your work will involve:

  • Inspecting and managing all types of commercial building projects — from innovative office spaces to complex mixed-use developments.
  • Supervising, mentoring, and supporting a team of Building Control professionals to deliver a high-quality, customer-focused service.
  • Ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and promoting excellence across all projects.
  • Leading on complex applications and providing expert technical guidance to clients, architects, and contractors.
  • Representing Plymouth City Council at professional meetings and working closely with partner organisations.

About You

  • You must be a Registered Building Inspector at Class 2 (A-F) or 3H (or be eligible to achieve this).
  • Significant experience working on complex commercial projects.
  • Leadership, mentoring, and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Building Regulations and associated legislation.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and strong communication skills.
