Exciting Opportunity: Head of Community Safety
As we welcome the New Year, we are delighted to announce an opening for the position of Head of Community Safety. This pivotal role requires a forward-thinking and adaptable strategic leader to lead and shape the future of our Community Safety Services.
Key areas of responsibility will include overseeing Youth Services, the Community Safety Partnership (Safer Plymouth), and the management of statutory obligations such as Domestic Abuse Related Death Reviews, Anti-Social Behaviour Case Reviews, and the Serious Violence Reduction Duty.
This dynamic position is central to our Community Connections Service, and we are seeking an experienced leader dedicated to fostering and guiding high-performing teams while driving system improvements.
We Invite Applications From Candidates Who Can Demonstrate

  • Strong senior partnership-building skills
  • A strategic vision for community safety
  • Experience in a fast-paced public service environment

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with local, regional, and national partners to influence policy and enhance services for the residents of Plymouth. Given the responsive nature of this role, candidates must be physically available to address high-profile incidents related to Community Safety.
While experience in a senior role within a political context is preferred, it is not essential. If you are passionate about Community Safety and committed to working with exceptional teams and partners to ensure Plymouth is a city where everyone feels safe, we encourage you to get in touch.
This role is suitable for flexible working subject to the needs of the service and ability to attend the office at short notice.
For more information or an informal discussion regarding this role, please contact Matt Garrett, Service Director for Community Connections on matt.garrett@plymouth.gov.uk . Or Tracey Naismith current Head of Community Safety on tracey.naismith@plymouth.gov.uk
Proposed Closing date: Sunday 11 January 2026
Anticipated interview dates: 19th & 20th January 2026
Please note, this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship and we can only consider applicants with existing right to work in the UK.
