The Box’s mission is to be a social space for art, people, and ideas, with learning, participation, and artistic excellence at its heart. We are a new hybrid cultural organisation – part museum, gallery, and archive.

The Archivist role is central to our integrated approach to collections management and the delivery of The Box’s ambitious programme. From managing collections to collaborating with colleagues and artists on engaging exhibitions, commissions, and displays, this is a fast-paced and exciting opportunity. We’re looking for an Archivist who will be an ambassador for The Box’s archive collections. You’ll bring broad archival expertise across paper, media, and digital formats. Collaboration and innovation are key, along with a commitment to improving accessibility and public engagement with the archive. You’ll be part of a skilled and ambitious Collections team, working to generate pride, promote participation, and ensure The Box is nationally recognised and locally loved. Following more than three years of critically acclaimed programming, we’re eager to grow our audiences and reputation, and reimagine what a hybrid cultural organisation can be in the 21st century. Role and responsibilities

The Archivist role is central to our integrated approach to collections management and the delivery of The Box’s ambitious programme. From managing collections to collaborating with colleagues and artists on engaging exhibitions, commissions, and displays, this is a fast-paced and exciting opportunity. You’ll be an ambassador for The Box’s archive collections and bring broad archival expertise across paper, media, and digital formats. Collaboration and innovation are key, along with a commitment to improving accessibility and public engagement with the archive. You’ll be part of a skilled and ambitious Collections team, working to generate pride, promote participation, and ensure The Box is nationally recognised and locally loved.

Location and details

Location: The Box Plymouth

Status: Permanent, Flexible worker (min 3 days/week on site)

Hours per week: 37

Grade: F £33,699 – £36,363
