We are looking for a Sales Engineer to join our team in a full-time role. This position involves providing technical expertise and support to clients, assisting the sales team in identifying customer needs, and delivering tailored solutions. Daily tasks will include communicating the value of our products, managing customer relationships, and addressing technical inquiries, alongside performing sales administration tasks. As a Sales Engineer at Plyable, you will act as a vital link between our engineering team, sales team, and clients to ensure customer satisfaction and successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Act as the primary technical contact for prospective and existing customers during the sales process, supporting the Business development team to drive proposals from initial discussions through to successful projects.
- Understand customer manufacturing processes, constraints, and performance requirements, ensuring scope and quality requirements are agreed between customer and Plyable.
- Translate customer needs into tooling concepts, specifications, and proposals.
- Lead technical discussions, site visits, and capability presentations.
- Support proposal development, including scope definition, timelines, and technical risk assessment.
- Assist with pricing inputs by estimating material, labor, and manufacturing complexity.
- Identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities based on customer applications.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation for quotes, contracts, and handovers.
- Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to develop viable tooling solutions.
- Evaluate materials, processes, and manufacturing routes for composite and metallic tooling.
- Ensure proposed solutions are manufacturable, cost-effective, and scalable.
- Contribute to design-for-manufacture and design-for-cost decisions.
- Support project handover from sales to engineering and production.
- Remain involved through early project phases to manage scope and expectations.
- Address technical issues or change requests from customers.
- Capture lessons learned and customer feedback for continuous improvement.
- Provide feedback into product roadmap and process development.
- Support development of technical marketing materials (case studies, datasheets).
- Bachelor’s degree (BEng or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace or related discipline. Higher degree desirable but not required.
- 3 years+ experience in composites manufacturing, tooling, or advanced manufacturing or a combination of engineering and customer-facing technical roles.
- Practical exposure to composite processes.
- Experience working with tooling materials (metal, composite, hybrid tools).
- Strong understanding of composite materials and manufacturing methods.
- Ability to interpret CAD models, drawings, and specifications.
- Familiarity with manufacturing cost drivers and lead-time constraints.
- Comfort discussing tolerances, surface finish, thermal behavior, and durability.
- Able to explain complex engineering concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Confident leading technical conversations with senior engineers and managers.
- Strong written communication for proposals and technical documentation.
- Commercial awareness and solution-oriented mindset.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and evolving processes.
- Willing to wear multiple hats and move between technical and commercial tasks.
- Proactive, self-directed, and able to prioritize without heavy structure.
