Are you passionate about innovation, startups, and creating vibrant business communities? As Slough Workshop Manager you will be responsible for running and maintaining the hub’s workshops, creating a safe and welcoming environment for members. This includes working with our community of startups and engineers to support their projects through inductions into the space, training them on machinery, making sure the space works for their needs and facilitating connections to our team of experts. The role also oversees machine maintenance and workshop H&S as well as supporting the Location Manager with tours.
As part of the wider team, your role will include fostering a collaborative approach to work.
- Responsibility area 1: Safe and effective Slough workshop operation and building an effective, supportive community of workshop members.
- Accountable for the effective and safe running of the Slough workshop space and facilities.
- Responsible for implementing, maintaining and developing processes to manage the workshop and its facilities to a high standard.
- Working closely with the Location Manager to build the community of workshop users.
- Responsible for oversight and operations of the workshop including all machine maintenance.
- Manage workshop maintenance and equipment budgets.
- Accountable for ensuring that the equipment is kept in a safe and good working order.
- Lead on the procurement of workshop facilities and associated builders work, as and when required.
- Maintain and build external relationships with partners and suppliers.
- Support the Location Team with workshop tours and maker centred events.
- Support the Programme team in scoping and facilitating specialist facilities activities.
- Accountable for high levels of Workshop related H&S compliance for all members and Plus X Innovation staff – including ensuring that members complete relevant safety inductions, machine training and risk assessments.
- Point person for our external H&S consultants Citation who will guide and support you where needed.
- Accountable for implementing H&S best practices across the Workshop.
- Responsible for implementing, maintaining and developing processes to ensure H&S compliance levels in the workshop. This includes fire safety.
- Carrying out recommendations from external and internal H&S audits and establishing risk management strategy of all Workshop activities.
- Working closely with Plus X Innovation Workshops and Location Managers across the locations to identify opportunities to improve the facilities, share knowledge, expertise and best practice.
- Manage members Workshop H&S paperwork, and review member made risk assessments & safe working procedures for their own tasks or machinery.
