Production Technician
Location: Towcester, Northamptonshire

Company Overview
This established engineering and manufacturing business specialises in developing and producing customised sensor solutions for a wide range of applications. With expanding production capabilities and a focus on quality, technical expertise and customer requirements, the organisation offers a varied, hands-on environment where employees can develop their skills through practical training and cross-functional experience.

About the Role
An exciting opportunity is available for a Production Technician to join a growing manufacturing team in Towcester. This hands-on role offers variety, with technicians involved in the complete assembly and testing of specialist sensor products rather than carrying out the same task repeatedly. You will work from detailed technical drawings, wiring instructions and documented work instructions, using soldering, crimping, potting, testing and assembly techniques.
Full training and cross-training will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for someone with relevant practical experience who is keen to develop their technical skills in a supportive manufacturing environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assemble and manufacture specialist sensor products using soldering, crimping, cable preparation, potting, heat-shrinking and other assembly techniques.
  • Carry out fine soldering, wire cutting and stripping, crimping and connector insertion/extraction using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Read and follow technical drawings, wiring diagrams and detailed work instructions to ensure products are manufactured accurately.
  • Mix and apply conformal coatings and potting materials, following appropriate procedures and PPE requirements when handling hazardous materials.
  • Operate hand tools, potting applicators and test equipment safely and effectively.
  • Inspect, test and record completed products, including serial numbers, before packing and despatch.
  • Complete production records, stock-taking, labelling and computer-based activities such as clocking and label printing.
  • Work collaboratively to achieve production targets and quality standards, escalating issues appropriately and contributing to continuous improvement.

Education & Skills Required

  • Previous experience in a production, manufacturing, assembly, engineering or technical environment is desirable; full training will be provided for suitable candidates.
  • Good practical skills, ideally including fine soldering, crimping, cable preparation or similar precision assembly work.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and product quality.
  • Ability to understand and follow technical drawings, wiring instructions, work instructions and documented processes.
  • Basic IT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, alongside the ability to use computer-based production systems.
  • Self-motivated and reliable, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, manage pressure, meet objectives and communicate effectively.

Additional Information

  • 35 hour working week (8am – 4pm Monday – Thursday and 8am – 1pm Friday)
  • Fully office based
  • Due to the rural location of the site in Towcester, a full driving licence is required.
  • 27.5 days annual holiday, plus bank holiday and your birthday off
  • Annual bonus scheme
  • Life insurance, Income protection and company pension
  • Health Schemes including optical/dental

If you have practical manufacturing or assembly experience, excellent attention to detail and a genuine desire to learn and develop new technical skills, this could be an excellent opportunity. Apply today to take the next step in your production career.
