Geospatial Surveyor (Contract)
Introduction
As one of the largest measurement survey companies in the UK, Plowman Craven provides a range of services to the property, rail and infrastructure markets. Our innovation, dynamic approach and commitment to delivering a flawless service enable us to push boundaries and deliver exceptional results. Regardless of the size or complexity of a project, our clients trust us to provide a service that goes beyond their expectations.
Role Overview
We are looking to connect with experienced Geospatial Surveyors for contract opportunities across a range of specialist surveying projects within rail, highways and infrastructure environments nationwide.
Working with Plowman Craven on a contract basis, you will support the delivery of high quality survey data for major infrastructure clients, including Network Rail and London Underground. You will have the opportunity to work with advanced surveying technologies, including laser scanning, UAS (drones) and Amberg Track Trolleys, contributing to projects that require accuracy, technical expertise and a strong commitment to health and safety.
We are also keen to build relationships with experienced surveyors for future projects, so if you are interested in contract opportunities but the timing isn't right for a current assignment, we'd still welcome a conversation.
What You'll Be Doing
-
Work alongside Lead Surveyors and Project Managers to identify appropriate surveying technologies and efficient methodologies to deliver projects to specification and programme.
-
Undertake surveying and technical activities across rail, highway and infrastructure environments, ensuring compliance with quality, health and safety standards.
-
Manage survey data from initial capture through to final delivery, following established company processes and protocols.
-
Check survey data and deliverables against agreed specifications and accuracy requirements, resolving discrepancies and submitting outputs for review before client issue.
-
Take ownership of allocated project activities, including logistics, planning and coordination with wider project teams.
-
Communicate project progress proactively, supporting delivery against deadlines and agreed project budgets.
-
Coordinate effectively with clients, subcontractors and other teams working on site.
-
Support and mentor junior surveyors where required, sharing technical knowledge and contributing to effective project delivery.
-
Work flexibly to meet project requirements, including night shifts, weekends and working away from home. Night work and working away may account for approximately 50% of the working month, depending on project requirements, with weekend shifts frequently available.
-
Undertake other reasonable duties relevant to the assignment.
What We're Looking For
-
Approximately 3β5 years' general surveying experience, ideally within rail, infrastructure or a related environment.
-
A relevant qualification in Surveying, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
-
Strong experience in traditional survey techniques, including control traverse observations, levelling and GNSS data collection.
-
Experience processing survey data and producing accurate, high-quality deliverables.
-
Strong IT skills, with experience using surveying and CAD software; knowledge of N4ce, Cyclone and AutoCAD would be advantageous.
-
Experience with advanced surveying technologies, such as laser scanning, UAS (drones) or track surveying equipment, would be beneficial.
-
Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
-
A proactive, self-motivated approach, with the ability to manage workloads and meet tight deadlines.
-
A full UK manual driving licence. Access to a suitable vehicle is desirable, although company vehicles may be available to support project deployment.
-
Flexibility to travel nationwide and work nights, weekends and away from home as project requirements dictate.
-
A valid CSCS card is required. Personal Track Safety (PTS) and London Underground Worksite Safety Induction (LU-WSSI) are desirable; training support may be available where appropriate.
