Plowman Craven is growing its Utilities team and we’re looking for a Senior Utilities Surveyor who can take real ownership of delivery on site, support junior surveyors, and act as a trusted lead on utilities projects. This role is for an experienced surveyor who is comfortable being the most knowledgeable person on site, making decisions on approach, safety and quality, and seeing work through from mobilisation to handover. You will work across a wide range of environments, including infrastructure, rail and complex underground settings, using modern survey technology as part of an established national team.

Let's Talk About The Role: As a Senior Utilities Surveyor, you will lead the delivery of PAS128-compliant utilities surveys, working closely with Survey Leads, delivery teams and clients. You will balance hands-on surveying with oversight of data quality, programme and on-site coordination, while supporting the development of less experienced colleagues. This is a practical, delivery-focused role with responsibility, autonomy and variety.

What will you be doing?

  • Leading PAS128-compliant utilities surveys from site mobilisation through to handover
  • Taking responsibility on site for safety, quality, approach and delivery
  • Locating underground services using electromagnetic locating and ground penetrating radar
  • Carrying out total station and GNSS observations
  • Processing EML and GPR data using AutoCAD, IQMaps and Geolitix
  • Managing survey data in line with company standards and project requirements
  • Working with Survey Leads and project teams to agree the most appropriate methods and technology
  • Coordinating with clients, subcontractors and other site teams
  • Monitoring progress, reporting updates and supporting projects to programme and budget
  • Supporting and mentoring junior surveyors, sharing knowledge and providing feedback
  • Working flexibly, including occasional night work or work away from home when required

Who this role is for? This role suits an experienced utilities surveyor who is confident working independently and taking responsibility for delivery on site. You are likely to have:

  • Proven experience delivering utilities surveys to PAS128 standards
  • Confidence using GPR, electromagnetic locating and TPS or GNSS equipment
  • Strong AutoCAD skills and experience processing survey data
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities across live projects
  • A practical, problem-solving approach when working in challenging environments
  • Clear communication skills with clients, site teams and colleagues
  • Experience supporting or supervising junior surveyors
  • Flexibility around working hours and location
  • A full, clean UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK
  • Experience with confined spaces, sewer surveys, laser scanning or rail environments is useful, but not essential.

What do you get?

  • The stability and long-term focus of an employee-owned business
  • A professional, supportive utilities team that values quality and teamwork
  • Investment in equipment, training and technical development
  • Clear opportunities to progress as your experience grows
  • Competitive salary with performance-related bonus
  • Generous annual leave allowance
  • Company laptop and mobile phone
  • Flexible working, balanced with the realities of site-based delivery
  • A wellbeing and social events programme
