Based at: ThePlough@StAnne’s, Paternoster Row, Barnstaple

Responsible to: The Manager, The Plough@StAnne’s

The postholder will be expected to cover for the Manager by carrying out the following tasks:

  • To be willing to work flexibly to cover for holidays/sickness/extra hours relating to the programme.
  • As key holder, to open and lock up the building and set the alarm.
  • To prepare and clear spaces for workshops and events. (This will involve moving chairs, tables and technical equipment up and down stairs.)
  • To assist in unloading and reloading vehicles for venue users/workshop leaders.
  • To be the Public Face of The Plough Arts Centre.
  • To offer a warm welcome to visiting artists, hirers, workshop leaders, workshop participants and the wider community.
  • To maintain a high level of awareness of potential health and safety issues and to take responsibility, as Duty Manager, for the safety and security of the public, staff colleagues, Plough volunteers and the building during working hours.
  • To manage Plough Volunteers at St Anne’s with ticket sales, refreshments and raffles.
  • To delegate other specific tasks to Plough Volunteers.
  • To ensure that information about all Plough Arts Centre events and activities is available to the public.
  • To assist with the management of the social media pages for ThePlough@StAnne’s and The Plough Arts Centre.
  • To utilise a range of skills in order to develop ThePlough@StAnne’s as a safe, thriving, dynamic & sustainable multi-purpose arts & community centre in the heart of Barnstaple.
  • To build relationships and collaborations with a wide range of individuals and organisations in order to nurture a varied range of high quality arts and heritage opportunities for the local community.
  • To actively promote the use of ThePlough@StAnne’s for a wide range of arts workshops and community meetings, talks and events.
  • To maximise opportunities to develop the footfall and income of the venue.
  • To carry out all administration related to events in collaboration with the box office team and the live event programmer.
  • To be IT literate and competent in using social media for advertising and uploading data to the ticketing system and website. (Training available)
  • Skills in graphic design would be useful.
  • To provide accurate figures to our bookkeeper for all financial transactions relating to St Anne's.
  • To assist at other Plough Venues as and when required (travel expenses can be claimed).

Employment Terms:

  • Employer: The Plough Arts Centre Ltd
  • Core Hours: 60 hours per month, Flexible to suit the programme and cover for the Manager as required.
  • Contract: Temporary for 6 months- to cover maternity leave
  • Holiday: FTE 33 days per annum, Pro Rata 46 hours in total per annum.
  • Overtime: Overtime is not paid but TOIL can be claimed.
  • Rate of Pay: £12.71 ph
  • The post is offered on a contract temporary subject to a 1 month probationary period.
  • Payment will be monthly in arrears, by direct transfer.
  • One month's notice is required from either party.
  • The Plough Arts Centre will undertake to pay the necessary Employers NI contributions.
  • The postholder will be expected to work within The Plough Arts Centre Policies and Procedures as set out in the Employee Handbook.
  • DBS check required.
  • Lone working may be required.
