The Mission
Your job is to discover what makes working at a charity frustrating, inefficient, or soul-crushing—and fix it. Everything else is in service of that goal.
What You'll Actually Do
- Go directly to users. You'll visit charities and councils in Belfast, Durham, Minneapolis, Warrington, and Slough. Meet people where they work, understand what makes them angry or frustrated, then write code to solve it.
- Ship fast, iterate faster. Build rapid prototypes, get real feedback, then craft properly delightful implementations.
- Leverage AI tools to ship an absurd amount of high-quality work.
- Own your work end-to-end. You'll build complete features in React/Next.js from conception through deployment, with full responsibility for what you ship.
What You Won't Do
- Workshop ideas and write specs in endless internal meetings.
- Ask permission, wait for designs, or 'align stakeholders.'
- Estimate story points or maintain backlogs.
You’ll Know It's Working When
- A customer texts you: 'this is probably a stupid idea, but…'
- Someone literally cries when you show them what you've built.
- A user sees you coding at their office over lunch and calls you a wizard.
How We’ll Support You
- Direct customer access — no gatekeeping, no account managers filtering feedback.
- Tool budget — we'll pay for whatever makes you faster.
- Domain expertise — we'll get you up to speed on the charity sector so you can build with genuine understanding.
What We’re Looking For
- Obsession. You've stuck with something for years—code, history, speedrunning, doesn't matter. You know what it feels like to care deeply about mastery.
- Excellence. There's one thing you're genuinely world-class at (top 0.1%). You know what it is.
- Technical depth + AI fluency. You can build complete React/Next.js features without autocomplete, but you've used Claude or Cursor enough that it's fundamentally changed how you work—not just something you've tried once.
How We Actually Work
- High trust, low ceremony. You won't spend 7 hours a day in meetings. We're building a small team of high performers and removing everything that slows them down.
- Prototypes over paperwork. We value working code over design documents. If you have a feature idea and get our greenlight, we'll get it into customers' hands as fast as you can build it.
- AI-friendly. Use whatever tooling makes you faster. Hotspot Cursor on the train back from Warrington to solve a client issue? We back you 100%. It just needs to be good code.
- Ownership matters. You'll have full responsibility for what you build. Years of FAANG experience doesn't impress us—shipping delightful products that solve real problems does.
