The Role

Join our team as a Manufacturing Test Engineer in our Livingston/Bathgate site, and take responsibility for the technical direction and successful validation of critical test and inspection equipment at our site. This is an opportunity to make a tangible impact by supporting electronic product testing solutions for high-stakes sectors, including Aerospace/Defence, Medical, and Industrial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and Training: Develop and provide training on Assembly Build Instructions, ensuring adherence to global Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
  • Project Leadership: Lead the technical introduction of new customers and products into the testing process.
  • Quality Management: Implement Engineering Change Orders (ECO) for testing and contribute to the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process, including FMEA and Control Plans.
  • Continuous Improvement: Improve test acceptance and yield processes, performing failure analysis and yield improvement actions on PCBAs and complete end products.
  • Customer & Quotation Support: Interface directly with customers on technical testing matters and support test quote requests based on the RFQ process.
  • Validation: Validate test systems/fixtures to ensure compliance with stringent industry standards, including ISO 13485 and FDA 21 CFR 820.

Essential Technical Expertise

  • Testing Lifecycle: Proven experience in the lifecycle support of electronic product testing solutions across Aerospace/Defence, Medical, and Industrial sectors.
  • Test Strategy: Proficiency in developing functional test strategies and providing practical manufacturing requirements input to regional test development projects.
  • Analysis & Diagnostics: Experience performing failure analysis, utilizing problem-solving techniques like 8D corrective action, and analyzing data using software such as MS Excel and Minitab.
  • Instrumentation: Expert use of electronic test and measurement instruments, including DVMs, PSUs, oscilloscopes, power meters, and network analyzers.
  • Technical Comprehension: Ability to interpret and understand complex electronic schematics for PCBA and systems.

Compliance and Process

  • Conducting test acceptance for both customer-provided and Plexus-developed test solutions.
  • Defining and supporting calibration and preventative maintenance processes.

Highly Desirable

  • Educational Preference: Degree or master’s in electronics engineering or a related field.
  • Industry Background: A strong advantage is a background in Contract Electronics Manufacturing.
  • Programming Exposure: Experience with programming and scripting languages such as NI TestStand/LabVIEW, Visual Basic, C++, and Python.
  • Firmware: Experience with boot code programming, firmware deployment, flash device programming, and serial communications.
  • Specialized Testing: RF testing experience is a plus.
