This role exists to strengthen the depth and resilience of Plessey’s infrastructure capability. We operate a mature on‑premises estate spanning virtualisation, hyper‑converged infrastructure, container platforms, and enterprise identity—and are actively expanding our cloud presence to support business‑critical platforms. You will work alongside an experienced infrastructure team, bringing senior‑level platform knowledge and the ability to operate in a modern, DevOps‑informed way—using code, automation, and pipelines to build and operate infrastructure reliably and at scale. This is not a pure DevOps role. We need someone with strong infrastructure fundamentals who works in a structured, automated way and has the appetite to grow our cloud and IaC capability alongside the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and support Windows Server environments, including Hybrid Azure AD, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP across the estate.
  • Manage VMware virtualisation platforms.
  • Support the ongoing Nutanix HCI implementation, including post‑migration operational support.
  • Maintain and develop on‑premises Kubernetes clusters supporting manufacturing execution systems.
  • Maintain Linux‑based infrastructure underpinning core services and container workloads.
  • Support Intune and Microsoft 365 endpoint and platform configuration.
  • Manage and grow AWS environments, including platforms supporting YieldWerx and other cloud‑hosted services.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and/or Bicep.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions to automate infrastructure deployment and configuration.
  • Ensure cloud resources are provisioned securely, consistently, and cost‑effectively.
  • Contribute to security standards, patching schedules, and system hardening across all platforms.
  • Version‑control infrastructure configuration and changes using Git.
  • Produce and maintain clear, accurate technical documentation.
  • Provide senior technical guidance and share knowledge to reduce operational single points of failure.
  • Participate in on‑call and incident response activities as required.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Proven experience in a senior infrastructure engineering role.
  • Strong hands‑on expertise with Windows Server, Active Directory, and Hybrid Azure AD.
  • Experience administering VMware vSphere in production environments.
  • Solid Linux administration experience (RHEL, Ubuntu, or equivalent).
  • Practical, hands‑on Kubernetes experience including deployment, operations, and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrable AWS experience including EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, and core platform services.
  • Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions or equivalent platforms.
  • Strong scripting capability in PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
  • Confident working with Git and version‑controlled infrastructure.
  • Takes ownership and drives issues through to resolution independently.
  • Works methodically under pressure and effectively balances competing priorities.
  • Actively shares knowledge and reduces reliance on single points of expertise.
  • Communicates clearly with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working in an environment transitioning from traditional on‑prem infrastructure to a more modern, automated, cloud‑centric model.

Advantage

  • Experience with Nutanix HCI or similar converged infrastructure platforms.
  • Microsoft Azure experience (IaaS, PaaS, Intune, M365).
  • Familiarity with Aruba networking or Fortinet firewall platforms.
  • Relevant certifications: AWS SysOps Administrator, CKA, AZ‑104, or equivalent.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, or similar).
  • Background in a manufacturing, semiconductor, or regulated environment.

Benefits

  • Pension scheme
  • Private medical & dental insurance
  • 28 days’ holiday + bank holidays
  • Free onsite meals
  • Onsite gym
