This role exists to strengthen the depth and resilience of Plessey's on-premise infrastructure. We operate a mature estate spanning virtualisation, enterprise identity, networking, and core platform services, alongside continued growth in cloud-based workloads. You will form part of the team responsible for the day-to-day health of this estate, building genuine depth alongside our existing platform expertise as the roadmap progresses. There is scope to specialise in key areas over time as capability builds across the team. Alongside this, a smaller and growing set of workloads runs in AWS and Azure, which you will support and maintain, working with the team to keep them secure and well managed. Day to day, this includes patching, vulnerability management, and security hardening as part of the wider team, alongside project work to deliver IT solutions that meet business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and support Plessey’s on-premise infrastructure, including Windows Server, Active Directory, VMware, Linux, storage and Kubernetes.
  • Support and maintain networking, firewall, Intune and M365 platforms across the estate.
  • Manage patching, vulnerability remediation and security hardening across infrastructure and endpoints.
  • Support and maintain existing AWS and Azure workloads, with a focus on secure, efficient and cost-effective infrastructure.
  • Develop and extend Kubernetes across on-premise and cloud environments, using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD tooling.
  • Contribute to infrastructure and IT projects, delivering solutions that meet business requirements.
  • Produce clear technical documentation and share knowledge across the IT team to build resilience and reduce single points of failure.
  • Provide senior technical guidance and support with incident response and on-call activities as required.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Proven experience in a senior infrastructure engineering role, ideally within an on-premise environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server, Active Directory and Hybrid Azure AD.
  • Experience administering VMware vSphere in a production environment.
  • Strong experience with SAN and storage technologies.
  • Good Linux knowledge, ideally RHEL or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of networking and firewall administration.
  • Experience supporting AWS or Azure cloud environments.
  • Practical experience administering Kubernetes, particularly on-premise clusters.
  • Strong scripting skills in PowerShell or Bash.
  • Good understanding of infrastructure security, patching and vulnerability management.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to a wider audience.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to other office locations as required.
