We at Pleo are on a mission to make spend management surprisingly effective and empowering. We build a product used by thousands of companies across Europe, and our web app is a core part of that experience. We’re hiring a Staff Engineer to join Web Core — our frontend platform team. The Web Core team exists to enable product engineers across Pleo to build and ship high-quality web software. We own the foundations of the web stack (tooling, patterns, architecture, reliability of the developer workflow), and we partner closely with product teams to make delivery faster, safer, and more consistent.
What Web Core does
- Build and maintain a web platform that teams use to efficiently deliver excellent web experiences.
- Drive technical excellence across Pleo’s web applications (architecture, patterns, quality, performance, accessibility).
- Improve developer experience (DX) through tooling, CI reliability, and fast feedback loops.
- Steward shared web foundations (libraries, conventions, golden paths) and support adoption.
- Facilitate and contribute to the broader frontend community at Pleo.
What you’ll be doing
- As a Staff Engineer in Web Core, you will be a force multiplier. You’ll work across teams and systems to remove constraints and raise the bar for how we build and run web software.
- Set technical direction for parts of our web platform, and drive alignment across teams.
- Identify the biggest leverage opportunities for web engineering at Pleo (quality, delivery speed, reliability) and execute on them.
- Partner with product engineers and leads to design solutions that fit the wider ecosystem.
- Build and evolve internal tooling, frameworks, and golden paths that scale across teams.
- Improve the reliability and usability of our CI and local developer workflows.
- Coach and mentor engineers, and help grow technical leadership in the frontend community.
- Contribute hands-on in code. This role blends strategy and execution. You should expect to be coding a meaningful part of the time.
You’ll bring solid experience with
- Building and maintaining complex web applications at scale.
- TypeScript and modern frontend engineering (React experience is a plus).
- Designing maintainable systems (including frontend-facing APIs and platform boundaries).
- Testing practices and tooling (unit, integration, end-to-end) and a strong quality mindset.
- CI/CD and developer productivity improvements (faster, more reliable feedback loops).
- Observability and monitoring practices for web systems (metrics, logging, tracing, alerting).
- Working effectively across teams and stakeholders, and communicating tradeoffs clearly.
Your colleagues would say you
- Lead by example and raise the bar with pragmatism and care.
- Communicate clearly, listen well, and bring people along in decisions.
- Enjoy breaking down complex problems, gathering input, and driving to a solution.
- Coach others and create space for people to grow.
- Prefer progress over perfection, while still caring deeply about quality.
