Overview
In this role, you will own and evolve Pleo’s financial crime framework across KYC, AML/CFT and sanctions screening for the UK and EU/EEA. You’ll lead a remote team of specialists, driving end-to-end changes and embedding them with Operations. You’ll accelerate risk controls through automation and AI, and oversee vendor migrations and regulatory readiness. Responsibilities
- Own and evolve the financial crime framework for KYC, AML/CFT and sanctions screening across UK and EU/EEA
- Lead and support a remote team of specialists, building trust and cohesion
- Drive end-to-end change from identifying gaps to embedding fixes with Operations
- Leverage automation and AI to reduce manual effort and improve decision quality
- Lead the screening vendor migration through go-live
- Shape readiness for the EU AML Regulation
- Manage regulatory audits and inspections and contribute to the team's annual strategy
- Roadmap includes vendor migration go-live in Q1 and EU AML Regulation program with 2027 applicability
Key requirements
- Significant experience designing and improving financial crime frameworks, controls, and operating models in the UK or EU
- Experience across multiple entities and jurisdictions (UK and EU/EEA)
- Experience managing specialists while staying hands-on
- Proven track record of leading end-to-end change from stakeholders to delivery
- Demonstrable experience driving innovation, e.g., AI-enabled workflows or automated controls
- Bonus: experience leading a screening vendor migration or similar system implementation
- Bonus: hands-on experience preparing for the EU AML Regulation
- Leadership and team-building in a remote setting
- Strong communication and ability to translate complex concepts into practical guidance
- Stakeholder management and collaboration across Operations, Product, Engineering, Legal and Compliance
- KYC, AML/CFT and sanctions screening expertise
