The Role
Plentific is looking for an AWS Infrastructure Engineer to ensure the reliability, availability and day-to-day operation of its AWS cloud infrastructure and deployment platforms. This role is run and reliability-focused, owning break-fix, incident response and operational support of our AWS estate. You'll work hands-on with Terraform, Ansible and Linux every day, partnering closely with the DevOps Platform team to continuously reduce failure rates and recovery times.
Responsibilities
- Own day-to-day operational support of production and non-production AWS environments across Portal/ESB and SaaS platforms.
- Act as a primary responder for AWS infrastructure-related incidents, participating in P1/P2 escalations and coordinated incident response.
- Perform break-fix activities across the AWS estate, including deployment failures, EC2 and networking outages and data recovery from S3/RDS backups and snapshots.
- Troubleshoot and remediate issues on Linux servers, including performance degradation, disk/memory pressure, service failures and patching.
- Maintain and execute operational runbooks and incident playbooks for AWS services and Linux systems.
- Support and maintain Ansible playbooks and roles used for configuration management and routine operational tasks, escalating design improvements to the DevOps Platform team where required.
- Apply and validate infrastructure changes through Terraform, supporting the existing IaC workflows and helping resolve failed applies, drift and state issues.
- Monitor system health using existing observability tools (e.g. CloudWatch and related alerting), responding to alerts and identifying recurring failure patterns.
- Work with engineering teams to diagnose AWS infrastructure versus application-level issues and route appropriately.
- Support security and compliance operational tasks, including IAM access reviews, asset inventories, patching cadence and incident response support.
- Contribute to post-incident reviews and continuous improvement initiatives, feeding recurring issues back into automation via Terraform and Ansible.
Experience and Qualifications
- Commercial experience in an infrastructure operations, DevOps, SRE or platform support role.
- Strong hands-on experience operating AWS-based environments (e.g. EC2, EKS, ALB, VPC, RDS, S3, SES, IAM, Route 53, CloudWatch).
- Solid working knowledge of Terraform in an operational context — running plans and applies, understanding state, and diagnosing drift and failed changes.
- Practical experience with Ansible for configuration management and operational automation.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across Linux operating systems (e.g. Ubuntu and Amazon Linux), networking, DNS and cloud services.
- Experience participating in incident response.
- Familiarity with deployment tooling and CI/CD pipelines.
- Ability to work calmly and methodically during high-severity incidents.
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem solving.
- AWS certifications (e.g. DevOps Engineer, Solutions Architect Associate) are a plus.
