The PlayStation Studios Creative Arts group is seeking a Sr. Technical Designer to join our Gameplay Capture Art team and focus on our upcoming Marathon title. This role reports to the Manager of Capture Art and our Sr Manager of Creative and is crucial for maximising project efficiency by designing, developing and implementing new toolsets, maintaining backend processes, and partnering with development teams to ensure builds are capture and content ready.

You’ll collaborate across various teams within the wider organisation to understand the game engine, server workflows, debug tools, and equipment needs for the assigned IP. This is not a development role; our group acts as a Creative Agency for our various Publishing/Marketing partners to produce top-tier marketing assets across a variety of formats.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of new game capture and technical pipelines including new prototypes that stretch the capabilities of existing systems in creative ways.
  • Be accountable for the deployment and process improvements for standing up external partners with our toolsets.
  • Provide technical quality assurance for internal and externally developed assets.
  • Troubleshoot and debug technology issues for internal teams and external partners.
  • Provide clear documentation and training on new tools and workflows.
  • Oversee freelance artists work on lower scope build support and help mentor junior members of the team.
  • Work with our team and creative leads to enhance and support the creation of gameplay capture content and delegate work across the team as needed.
  • Work with Production to understand upcoming releases and plan the structures needed to execute on the work, including support for external agencies and other vendors or freelance artists.
  • Assist Artists with the setup of complex game capture shots and cinematic based workflows.
Required Skills
  • Significant experience with Game engine toolsets and knowledge of a variety of engines.
  • A solid knowledge of cinematography tools used in film and animation.
  • An advanced understanding of applying filming techniques to game capture, such as camera moves, D OF, lens choice, etc.
  • Experience improving or building technical and artistic workflows.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with little supervision.
  • Knowledge of Maya and other keyframed based sequencing or animation tools.
  • Understanding of project management and how to partner with Production and Leads to balance tasks and workloads against tight deadlines.
  • C# or Python scripting knowledge.
Nice To Have Skills
  • Extensive knowledge of Bungie IP’s.
  • Experience and familiarity with video game production and development workflows.
  • Passion for and knowledge of a wide variety of film genres, especially in the science fiction realm.
  • Technical Writing experience.
