Director, IT Core Infrastructure
The Director, Core Infrastructure is responsible for leading the strategy, delivery, and operations of SIE’s foundational infrastructure services, including internal networks and client access, core network connectivity across physical sites, on-premise infrastructure, and enterprise endpoint management across mobile, Linux, Windows, and Mac platforms.
Reporting to the Senior Director of IT, this role directs a broad, globally distributed organization through multiple managers and is accountable for the performance, security, scalability, reliability, and resilience of Core Infrastructure services.
The Director will translate enterprise strategy into a cohesive infrastructure roadmap, ensuring resilient, secure, and high-performing platforms that enable business operations and employee productivity worldwide.
This leader will operate across organizational boundaries, balancing operational excellence with long-term transformation, while driving standardization, modernization, automation, and a product-oriented approach to infrastructure services.
The Director will partner with business, engineering, product, and technology leaders to ensure infrastructure capabilities support business priorities, employee productivity, and digital transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Functional Leadership & Accountability
- Direct and develop multiple infrastructure domains through subordinate managers, including:
- Internal network and client access services (Wi-Fi, VPN, remote access)
- Core network and site connectivity (WAN, data center interconnects)
- On-premise infrastructure (DNS, compute, storage platforms)
- Endpoint and client management (mobile, Linux, Windows, Mac)
- Hold end-to-end accountability for service performance, including availability, reliability, security, resilience, and user experience.
- Make final decisions on operational priorities, tradeoffs, and execution across the Core Infrastructure portfolio.
- Infrastructure Strategy & Roadmap
- Define and execute a clear Core Infrastructure strategy aligned to enterprise architecture and business priorities.
- Develop and maintain multi-year roadmaps for network, infrastructure, and endpoint services, balancing modernization, cost, and risk.
- Drive standardization and simplification across environments, reducing complexity and improving scalability.
- Drive adoption of automation, infrastructure-as-code, observability, and AI-enabled operational practices to improve scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Partner with security, cloud, and application teams to ensure integrated, future-ready infrastructure solutions.
- Influence enterprise technology strategy through collaboration with Architecture, Information Security, Workplace Technology, Cloud Platforms, and business leadership teams.
- Service Delivery & Operational Excellence
- Establish and enforce operational frameworks for service management, incident response, change control, and lifecycle management.
- Ensure infrastructure services meet or exceed SLAs, service-level objectives (SLOs), performance targets, security requirements, and resilience objectives.
- Drive continuous improvement in reliability, observability, automation, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with global regulatory, data privacy, security, business continuity, and disaster recovery requirements.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior technology and business leaders on infrastructure strategy, risks, and investments.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align priorities, manage dependencies, and deliver outcomes.
- Communicate complex technical topics clearly to executive audiences, influencing decisions and direction.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives that span infrastructure, security, cloud, and enterprise platforms.
- People Leadership & Organizational Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a global organization of managers and senior engineers.
- Build a high-performing culture centered on accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure the organization has the right skills and structure to support current operations and future transformation.
- Build and develop a high-performing leadership team through succession planning, talent development, coaching, and organizational design.
- Act as a mentor and leader within the broader organization, contributing to talent development and succession planning.
- Financial & Resource Management
- Own budget, forecasting, and resource allocation across Core Infrastructure services.
- Own operating and capital budget planning, balancing service quality, risk management, and cost efficiency while driving measurable return on infrastructure investments.
- Drive cost optimization while maintaining service quality and resilience.
- Manage vendor relationships and strategic partners, ensuring performance, value, alignment with business goals, and access to innovation.
- Governance, Risk & Continuous Improvement
- Establish and enforce governance frameworks, standards, and policies across infrastructure domains.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to availability, security, scalability, and resilience.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across tools, processes, and service delivery models.
- Contribute to broader infrastructure and enterprise operating model evolution.
- Establish and monitor service-level objectives (SLOs), availability targets, and operational performance metrics to drive continuous improvement and accountability.
Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, networking, or enterprise IT platforms.
- 5+ years of experience managing managers and leading global, distributed teams.
- Deep expertise across one or more core infrastructure domains (networking, on-prem infrastructure, endpoint management).
- Proven experience operating and evolving large-scale, enterprise infrastructure environments.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure security, resilience, business continuity, and operational best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and align senior stakeholders in complex, matrixed organizations.
- Experience building and executing strategic roadmaps and operating models.
