By studying and analyzing the gaming consumer and marketplace, SIE's Consumer Insights team helps drive the development of exceptional and imaginative ideas across PlayStation. We are adding a member to the global team responsible for the management, implementation, analysis, reporting, and creative presentation of various forms of consumer research. The ideal candidate will have contemporary and advanced knowledge of both consumer research and the video game industry, and can partner with stakeholders across PlayStation to investigate important topics in gaming and entertainment today.

The role requires the ability to manage complex qualitative and quantitative research initiatives through all project phases, with a track record of helping organizations develop and act upon consumer research and analysis to drive near- and long-term business strategy and success. The primary responsibility is to manage research projects examining the overarching PlayStation brand and the consumer shopping experience related to its products, while contributing to a broader set of consumer research initiatives across PlayStation's business.

This role involves asking consequential business questions, collaborating with partners to study the subject in detail, and leading the construction of fair and meticulous answers that improve the business’ understanding and ability to act. It takes a desire to learn why people play, a drive to make playing more exciting and rewarding, and skill in applying data and storytelling to drive ground-breaking insights.

Key Function and Responsibility of the Role

  • Represent the voice of the consumer in terms that drive more informed choices within the business
  • Leverage Sony Interactive Entertainment's investment in primary and secondary research to derive insights and provide strategic leadership to internal stakeholder groups
  • Design and execute globally-appropriate research projects, leveraging best practices wherever possible
  • Manage research partners and other resources to design, field, report, and present best-in-class research projects
  • Help identify future growth opportunities, unmet consumer needs, and market whitespace
  • Provide strategic counsel to key stakeholders both within Sony Interactive Entertainment and at external partners
  • Build reports and presentations that leverage research observations and insights across projects to communicate larger themes across the organization
  • Promote personal development across the larger Consumer Insights team by fostering an environment of feedback, learning, and mentorship
  • Monitor your area’s budget across your areas of focus, ensuring funds are spent responsibly and directed at questions most valuable to the business
  • Support other members of the Consumer Insights team by ensuring internal visibility of your work
  • Connect the Consumer Insights team to the latest methodologies, partners, and essential tools of the research industry
  • Expert in PowerPoint slide design, with a focus on data visualization and storytelling
  • High levels of proficiency in online survey platforms and cross-tabulation portals and/or analytical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R, Tableau)
  • Ample experience in survey design and survey writing with high proficiency in survey programming tools (e.g., Qualtrics, Decipher)
  • Minimum five years of experience leading consumer research projects
  • Advanced degree or higher in Statistics or similar quantitative field of study (e.g., Math, Economics, Engineering, Physics)

Qualifications

  • Proven ability to represent qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, analysis, and insights clearly and concisely to senior-level decision-makers
  • Exceptional reporting and presentation skills with the ability to communicate through written reports, presentations, summary documents, and emails
  • Experience managing relationships and administrative processes with multiple research suppliers and agency partners
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented with a penchant for data accuracy
