The role
We are looking for a Senior Graphics Engineer with strong experience in real‑time computer graphics and game development to design and implement high‑quality, game‑like rendering scenarios that evaluate, validate, and showcase new graphics features. In this role, you will drive technical direction through hands‑on development, prototyping, and performance analysis, influencing the design and adoption of rendering technologies across teams. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in real‑time rendering, ideally with PlayStation 5 graphics APIs or comparable low‑level console or modern graphics APIs, and a proven ability to deliver robust, scalable solutions while collaborating effectively with globally distributed teams.
The team
Based in London, our team are part of the ‘Foundational Systems and Experiences Engineering’ group. We build the low‑level SDKs and fundamental technologies used by our game development partners to create PlayStation Games. Our team are working on the latest GPU and Machine Learning technologies to deliver the next generation of high‑performance computer graphics for PlayStation.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead the design and development of high‑quality, game‑like rendering scenarios to evaluate, validate, and showcase new graphics features at scale.
- Own and deliver production‑grade sample code, libraries, and tools for internal teams and inclusion in the PlayStation SDK, ensuring robustness, scalability, and long‑term maintainability.
- Drive cross‑team collaboration with platform, tools, developer support and studio teams globally to establish guidelines and enable successful adoption of new rendering technologies.
- Influence graphics feature direction through hands‑on prototyping, deep technical investigation, and performance analysis across CPU and GPU.
- Define and uphold engineering standards for developer‑facing code, ensuring clarity, usability, and high‑quality documentation.
- Mentor other engineers and contribute to the technical growth of the team.
What we’re looking for
- 6–10+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on game development or real‑time rendering.
- Expert‑level C/C++ with significant experience in game or game engine development (e.g., memory systems, job systems, low‑level optimization).
- Deep experience in real‑time rendering, ideally with PlayStation 5 graphics APIs or comparable low‑level console / modern graphics APIs (e.g., Vulkan, DirectX 12).
- Strong understanding of GPU architecture, rendering pipelines, and performance trade‑offs across CPU/GPU boundaries.
- Advanced proficiency in HLSL (Shader Model 6) and modern shader development techniques.
- Proven ability to debug, profile, and optimize complex systems across CPU and GPU.
- Demonstrated ability to design systems and make sound technical trade‑offs.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience working across globally distributed teams.
- Experience with modern development practices (e.g., SCRUM) and collaborative workflows using GitHub.
- Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or equivalent experience in a practical setting.
Nice to haves
- Experience architecting or significantly contributing to game engines or rendering frameworks.
- Experience developing and optimising advanced rendering techniques such as global illumination, ray tracing, or hybrid rendering approaches.
- Experience building high‑quality developer‑facing samples, tools, or user documentation used by external developers.
- Track record of technical leadership, including mentoring engineers or leading projects/features.
- Contributions to open source projects or a strong public technical portfolio (e.g., GitHub).
