We are looking for an experienced HGV Mechanic / Fitter / Fabricator to join our professional workshop team.
Working within our modern, well equipped facility, you'll undertake maintenance, repairs, inspections, MOT preparation and fabrication work on a varied range of HGVs, trailers and commercial vehicles.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled mechanic who takes pride in quality workmanship, compliance and customer service.
The HGV Mechanic will work alongside highly experienced mechanics, using current technology and industry best practices.
The ideal candidate will work well within a team, as well as independently.
At Platts Commercial Services, no two days are the same.
From preventative maintenance inspections and brake testing through to trailer repairs, fabrication work and MOT preparation, you'll enjoy a varied and rewarding role.
You'll support both our growing in house fleet and a wide range of external commercial customers.
Responsibilities
- Identifying faults and rectifying defects on trailers, carrying out repairs to the highest standards.
- Conducting quality checks, recognising opportunities for continual improvement and ensuring work meets company and industry standards.
- Completing trailer inspections and preventative maintenance activities.
- Accurately completing vehicle service sheets, inspection reports, and job card documentation.
- Preparing vehicles and trailers for MOT testing and conducting MOT inspections where qualified.
- Maintaining the company's excellent reputation for roadworthiness and compliance with DVSA standards.
- Ensuring compliance with all Health & Safety, environmental, and company procedures.
- Working effectively to minimise vehicle downtime and maximise fleet availability.
- Providing exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers through high standards of workmanship, communication and professionalism.
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment.
- Supporting colleagues and contributing positively to the workshop team.

What will I need to be considered for this HGV Mechanic / Fitter vacancy?
- Proven experience and knowledge as a Mechanic working with heavy goods trailers and their components.
- Qualified HGV Mechanic to at least City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in an HGV technical qualification.
- Hold a C+E driving licence, and preferably a Drivers CPC qualification (non mandatory).
- Ability to ensure vehicles and trailers are maintained in line with current DVSA standards.
- Experience of working to health and safety, and COSHH requirements.
- Computer literate with experience of using email and Microsoft Office applications.
- Although not essential, proven experience of fabrication and welding would be highly advantageous for this role.
- Licence/Certification
- C+E driving licence (Preferred).
- FLT / Counterbalance Licence (Preferred).
