Looking for Transport Operations Manager, managing the transport office team, as well as dealing with drivers, managing the fleet etc.

My client who is an evolving SME organisation, based in Manchester is seeking a dynamic and experienced Transport Operations Manager to join their team. This role is pivotal in overseeing the efficient and effective operation of our fleet of approximately 50 HGV vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Management: Manage the day-to-day operations of the transport department, including route planning, vehicle scheduling, and driver assignments.
  • Warehouse Oversight: Oversee the warehouse operations, ensuring efficient stock management, loading/unloading processes, and warehouse safety.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, motivate, and develop a team of drivers and warehouse staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Performance Management: Set and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure operational efficiency and identify areas for improvement.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to all relevant transport regulations, including tachograph, driver hours, and vehicle maintenance.
  • Cost Management: Manage transport costs, including fuel, maintenance, and driver wages, to optimise profitability.
  • Customer Service: Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring timely and efficient deliveries.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and resolve operational challenges proactively, ensuring minimal disruption to service.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Proven experience in transport and logistics management, with a strong passion for the HGV industry.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with a hands-on approach.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Good knowledge of transport regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience in managing a fleet of vehicles and warehouse operations.
  • Must hold a Full UK Driving licence.
  • Live within a commutable distance to Manchester.
