Your Direct Impact: The Role & Responsibilities
As the SHEQ leader, you will be instrumental in protecting our people and our assets, ensuring the Plant operation runs safely and efficiently in West Sussex:

Regulatory Compliance: Develop and enforce site-specific SHEQ documentation and procedures, ensuring full compliance with CDM regulations and relevant Plant/Lifting Operations standards.

Operational Auditing: Lead hands-on site inspections and workshops audits (covering maintenance, fabrication, and repair areas), proactively identifying and mitigating hazards unique to the Plant sector (e.g., working at height, lifting operations, machinery guarding).

Culture & Training: Implement targeted toolbox talks and safety training for operational teams, focusing on the real-world risks faced by Plant Operators, Fitters, and Site Teams.

Incident Investigation: Conduct detailed root cause analyses for all incidents and near misses, implementing robust preventative measures immediately across the Plant operation.

Process Improvement: Drive the maintenance and continual enhancement of our ISO accredited management systems (9001, 14001, 45001) to boost operational quality and environmental stewardship.
What You Need to Bring: Requirements & Expertise
We require a candidate who can hit the ground running with proven industry knowledge:

Essential Experience: Demonstrable, hands-on experience managing SHEQ specifically within the Plant Hire, Heavy Construction, or Civil Engineering sectors.

Core Qualifications:

NEBOSH National General Certificate (minimum).

NVQ Level 5 or 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice.

An Environmental Management or relevant ISO lead auditor qualification is highly beneficial.

Technical Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of LOLER, PUWER, and CE marking requirements as they relate to heavy machinery and plant equipment.
