A technology-focused manufacturing organisation developing engineered consumer and industrial products is seeking a Product Design Engineer to support the creation of new products and the evolution of existing ranges. You will work across the full product development lifecycle β from early concept and feasibility through detailed design, prototyping, testing, and production release β collaborating closely with internal teams and external partners to deliver robust, high-performance products for demanding environments.
This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of projects, drive designs through to manufacture, and contribute to a growing portfolio of innovative, market-facing products.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design and development of new products from concept through to production release.
- Research, generate, and evaluate product concepts, including feasibility and technical risk assessment.
- Produce detailed 3D CAD designs and associated engineering documentation for manufacture.
- Build, assemble, and test prototypes in-house and in relevant real-world environments.
- Define suitable materials and manufacturing processes in line with performance, cost, and quality targets.
- Compile and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and support tooling and cost estimation activities.
- Work closely with supply chain partners to ensure designs are manufacturable and scalable.
- Support sample review and sign-off prior to production.
- Collaborate with marketing and commercial teams by providing renders, visuals, and technical input.
- Manage your own projects, tracking progress, risks, and delivery against timelines.
- Degree in Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated experience delivering products from concept through to production.
- Strong 3D CAD skills, ideally using SolidWorks or a similar package.
- Experience designing products that integrate mechanical and electronic components.
- Good understanding of materials and manufacturing processes and how to apply them effectively.
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, model making, and product testing.
- Ability to manage projects, priorities, and deadlines independently.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with low-voltage electronic products or in regulated product environments.
- Familiarity with FEA, rendering, and visualisation tools.
- Experience preparing marketing visuals, renders, or animations.
- Understanding of global supply chains and outsourced manufacturing.
- Structured and organised approach with the ability to prioritise workloads.
