A manufacturing organisation operating an in-house metal fabrication and assembly environment is seeking a Production Engineer to support both existing product ranges and the introduction of new products. The role sits within a Production Engineering and Lean function and focuses on improving manufacturing efficiency, quality, sustainability, and throughput across internal operations and the external supply chain.
You will work closely with Production, Lean, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to ensure products are fit for manufacture, cost-effective, and aligned with business and customer requirements, while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities- Support day-to-day production activities across metal fabrication and assembly operations
- Identify, evaluate, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality, throughput, cost, and health & safety
- Conduct feasibility studies for improvement projects and deliver approved initiatives through to implementation
- Collaborate with Lean teams to develop and embed best manufacturing practices, routines, and systems
- Support the strategic development of in-house manufacturing capabilities to meet business objectives
- Participate in new product introduction (NPI) activities to ensure designs are production-efficient before release
- Review and support engineering change requests, ensuring cost-effective solutions without compromising quality or safety
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of manufacturing documentation and operating instructions
- Liaise with internal departments, suppliers, and service providers to ensure smooth production support
- Produce reports and provide updates to support manufacturing and improvement projects
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental policies and procedures
- HNC / HND (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline as a minimum
- Experience supporting manufacturing operations within a batch or low-to-medium volume environment
- Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes and manufacturing limitations
- Proven experience implementing manufacturing improvements and continuous improvement projects
- Experience with quality tools including DFMEA and PFMEA
- Ability to assess manufacturability and influence design decisions during NPI
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Confident working cross-functionally with production, engineering, and supply chain teams
- Commercial awareness with the ability to balance quality, cost, and delivery
- Prior involvement in New Product Introduction (NPI) or product industrialisation
- Experience with value analysis / value engineering techniques
- Familiarity with root cause analysis tools (e.g. 8D, Value Stream Mapping)
- Project management experience delivering manufacturing or process change
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement frameworks
- Proactive, structured, and collaborative working style
