A market-leading UK-based engineering and manufacturing business is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its specialist design team. This role is focused on the design, manufacture, and installation of furniture systems for public spaces. The company is a leader in its field, offering a detail-oriented professional the chance to work on high-quality technical drawings and related engineering components.
The Role
You will be responsible for creating and updating accurate, high-quality technical drawings for the manufacture of contract seating. Working within a collaborative design team, you will ensure all designs are optimized for manufacturability while maintaining strict adherence to data management and change control procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Drawing: Create and maintain detailed 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, and assembly BOMs using SolidWorks.
- Design Support: Collaborate with the design team to ensure manufacturability, validating engineering concepts and 2D drawing detail.
- Change Control: Ensure design revisions are completed in accordance with the change procedures within the Data Management System (PDM).
- Assembly Manuals: Generate detailed Assembly Manuals using SolidWorks Composer.
- Tolerance Analysis: Perform tolerance stacks to optimize design in individual components and complex assemblies.
Requirements
- Software Proficiency: Expert-level skills in SolidWorks are essential. Experience with PDM, DraftSight/AutoCAD, Composer, Visualise, Revit, or FEA is an advantage.
- Qualifications: HNC, HND, or Degree in Engineering or Mechanical Design.
- Experience: At least 3 years of experience in a relevant industry such as engineering, fabrication, or construction.
- Drawing Standards: Familiarity with relevant UK Standard drawing conventions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Manufacturing Knowledge: Familiarity with a wide range of engineering and manufacturing processes, materials, and finishes.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills to manage workloads, and the ability to liaise professionally with internal workshop and sales teams.
- Practical Skills: Experience of using engineering tools and machinery is an advantage but not essential.
