Design Engineer (New Product Development) £40,000 – £60,000 | South Coast | Hybrid (office-based with flexibility) I’m partnered with an innovative outdoor products manufacturer who are looking for a talented Design Engineer to join their growing product development team. This is a hands-on, full-lifecycle design role where you’ll work on new product concepts from the ground up – combining creativity and technical expertise to develop rugged, functional, and beautifully engineered products that perform in the real world. You’ll collaborate closely with industrial designers, engineers, and manufacturing partners to take ideas from sketch through to production, leading the mechanical design of assemblies, frameworks, linkages, and moulded parts that are both durable and manufacturable. The role: * Lead the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies across a premium product range. * Produce detailed CAD models, drawings, and manufacturing documentation. * Optimise designs for high-volume production, focusing on injection moulding, aluminium/steel fabrication, and efficient assemblies. * Use simulation and prototyping to validate strength, fit, and function. * Work closely with overseas manufacturers to resolve production challenges and refine tooling. * Support testing and product validation, iterating based on performance feedback. * Play a key role in driving innovation and improving product performance and user experience. What they’re looking for: * A degree in Mechanical, Product Design, or Industrial Design Engineering. * 3–7 years’ experience (mid–senior level) in product or mechanical design – ideally within outdoor products, consumer goods, or automotive sectors. * Strong 3D CAD skills (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar). * Proven experience with DFM, injection moulding, and fabrication techniques. * Confident working through concept, prototype, and production phases. * A practical problem-solver who enjoys working with materials, mechanisms, and real-world testing. * Passionate about functional, well-built design and the outdoors. Salary: £40,000 – £60,000 DOE (My client is open to candidates from mid to senior level, depending on experience.) If you’re an engineer who loves turning ideas into tangible, high-performance products and want to make a visible impact in a fast-moving, design-led environment – I’d love to hear from you
