Role overview

We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to join our team as Head of Production. In this pivotal role, you will oversee our production management and production operations teams, driving alignment with the editorial vision of our projects and the company’s commercial goals. As Head of Production, you will lead the production team across the full content lifecycle—from pre-production planning to final delivery and distribution. You\'ll ensure quality, timeliness, and creativity are delivered across our slate while managing studio operations, budgets, workflows, and team performance. This role demands strong leadership in managing budgets, resources, and teams both on-site and remotely by fostering a collaborative and productive culture. You’ll work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

Production Management & Production Operational Leadership

  • Lead and manage production management and operational teams, ensuring alignment with Platform’s strategy, objectives, and editorial vision.
  • Oversee all work performed by the production management team, optimising workflows, operational processes, and cost efficiencies across our wide ranging slate.
  • Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of all production management-related activities, including pre-production, production, and post-production. Ensure production management delivers on time and on budget.
  • Manage a team of Production Executives, Managers and Coordinators at our London offices and Studios as well as those working elsewhere (remotely) in the UK and abroad, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Implement training and development initiatives to up-skill production teams, ensuring continuous professional growth.
  • This role involves periodic travel to studios and locations to support production across the UK and worldwide.

Budget and Resource Management

  • Collaborate with, and where necessary lead, creative/editorial, commercial and finance teams to set production budgets, schedules, manage cost control, and resource allocation effectively across productions and projects.
  • Lead negotiation with contributors and other production partners - including talent both in front of and behind the camera - and where necessary work with colleagues in legal to complete contractual paperwork
  • Negotiate vendor contracts, and manage relationships with selected external suppliers, and local production service providers.
  • Source hire and contract our flexible workforce for productions as needed. Work with these partners to ensure smooth workflows.
  • Work with the People team to hire staff into production roles as necessary.
  • Stakeholder Management & Cross-functional Collaboration
  • Partner with stakeholders from across our business from various departments such as: Content & Production, Finance, Legal, Sales and other teams.
  • Proactively manage and resolve issues as they arise, ensuring that potential conflicts are addressed and navigated effectively. Escalate matters as needed to the CFO and or other senior leadership team as relevant, ensuring alignment with departmental priorities and objectives while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships and managing any political dynamics
  • Work internationally and be flexible to work across time zones.
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks, ensuring teams remain compliant with health and safety regulations, legal requirements, and local production rules.
  • Ensure that programming is cleared for distribution, compliant with applicable laws and satisfies the contractual needs of clients and partners.
  • Manage any operational challenges that arise during production, providing solutions to ensure the operational actualities align with the editorial and commercial objectives.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience: Proven track record in one or more of the following areas: end-to-end production management across TV, social, digital and audio platforms, with expertise in post-production, distribution and delivery workflows.
  • Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of UK and global production landscapes, including budgeting, financial management, cost control, production-related legal/business affairs and best-practice methodologies.
  • Leadership: Leadership experience, with a demonstrated ability to manage and inspire multi-functional teams.
  • Organisational skills: Highly organised with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Communication & negotiation: Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with senior leadership, creative teams, and external partners.
  • Problem-solving: Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate challenges and develop effective solutions.
  • Data-driven approach: Excellent analytical skills, with a solid understanding of production data and key performance metrics.
