Platform Housing Group is one of the largest housing associations in the Midlands, owning and managing a substantial portfolio of homes across the region. With a strong social purpose and a clear commitment to providing safe, warm and affordable homes, Platform plays a vital role in supporting communities while responding to the evolving regulatory, environmental and customer landscape.
As Platform continues to advance its sustainability and decarbonisation ambitions, Goodman Masson has been appointed to support the recruitment of a Head of Sustainability (Assets & Energy). This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for shaping and delivering the organisation’s long-term sustainability strategy across assets, energy efficiency and retrofit.
This appointment comes at a pivotal point in Platform’s journey. As Lianne Taylor, Director of Sustainability, explains: “Platform Housing is an exciting organisation to join at a pivotal point in its journey. There is a genuine opportunity to shape and build something impactful — many areas are still evolving, which brings both challenge and real scope for influence. For someone motivated by change, ownership and the chance to leave a lasting legacy, Platform offers a rare and compelling opportunity.”
Reporting into the Director of Sustainability, the Head of Sustainability (Assets & Energy) will play a critical role in improving EPC performance across Platform’s housing stock, tackling fuel poverty and accelerating progress towards net zero. The postholder will lead the planning, delivery and reporting of energy efficiency and decarbonisation programmes, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations, funding requirements and Platform’s wider corporate objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the development and delivery of retrofit and decarbonisation strategies across Platform’s housing portfolio.
- Improving EPC ratings and driving energy efficiency improvements to support customers and reduce fuel poverty.
- Planning, delivering and reporting on grant-funded programmes, including schemes such as the Warm Homes Social Housing Fund.
- Ensuring compliance with PAS2035/2030, EPC standards and relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Providing clear, data-led performance reporting on sustainability, energy and carbon outcomes.
- Working collaboratively with internal teams, external partners and stakeholders to deliver complex programmes at scale.
- Supporting the organisation’s journey towards net zero while balancing customer impact, value for money and regulatory compliance.
We are keen to speak with candidates who bring:
- Proven experience managing retrofit and energy efficiency programmes within social housing or a related environment.
- In-depth knowledge of PAS2035/2030, EPCs and low-carbon technologies.
- Experience of securing, managing and reporting on grant funding.
- Familiarity with heat networks and an understanding of Heat Networks Regulations.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement and programme delivery skills.
This is a home-based role, with occasional travel to Platform’s Group offices in Worcester, Solihull and Louth (approximately once or twice per month). If you are a forward-thinking sustainability leader motivated by change, ownership and long-term impact, this is a rare opportunity to shape a critical agenda within a values-led housing organisation.
