A vacancy for a Shift Engineer has arisen within our production plant at our site in Widnes, Cheshire.

PLASMOR LIMITED is one of the UK's largest independent building block and block paving manufacturers, with a reputation for supplying quality products to our customers.

Reporting to the Site Engineer / Engineering Manager, the position demands good teamwork and a versatile skill set to fulfil the various responsibilities and duties of the role. Whilst experience in hydraulics and/or electrical systems is desirable, training will be provided.

Principal responsibilities will include:

  • Liaison with Production Team Leaders regarding maintenance activities
  • Adherence to the planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedule
  • Safe and efficient maintenance and repair of block plant machinery and associated equipment, including carrying out dynamic risk assessments of work to be done
  • Effective and timely response to resolving breakdown issues
  • Carrying out regular checks and inspections as directed by your Line Manager
  • Reporting any and all issues immediately they are identified
  • Assisting in production and cleaning down of production related equipment/machinery as directed by your line manager
  • Safe and responsible operation of materials handling equipment, once trained
  • Maintenance of a tidy working environment
  • Reduction of waste materials, parts, etc. during maintenance and repair
  • Adherence to good health and safety standards at all times
  • Ensuring your line manager is kept fully up to date with the progress and conclusion of maintenance and repair activities

Other responsibilities:

  • The jobholder will be required to perform ad-hoc duties in accordance with the needs of the business
  • The jobholder will be expected to provide holiday/absence cover for other colleagues within the business as and when required, and in accordance with management instructions
  • The jobholder is expected to be receptive to development training in both an in-house and external nature

A degree of physical activity is intrinsic within this role, including manual handling of large machinery parts/components and other equipment, negotiating steps/ladders/vertical ladders and above ground open-mesh floor walkways, accessing various areas of production machinery, the use of hand/pneumatic tools. There is also a requirement to wear items of personal protective equipment (PPE), including, for certain tasks, respiratory protective equipment.

Working hours:

Working 40 hours per week with a requirement, when necessary, to work up to 48 hours per week. This will be on a 2-shift system, alternating each week from 6:00am to 2:00pm, and 2:00pm to 10:00pm, rotating and covering for holidays and sickness as and when required.
