Dueto retirement, we are looking to recruit a full-time Practice Manager for ourGP practice in the village of Bexley, located in South East London.

Thesuccessful candidate should be business-orientated and an enthusiasticindividual with NHS experience and good communication and IT skills, andexcellent organisational skills.

Main duties of the job

Asthe Practice Manager you would run the business side of our GP Surgery. Youwould be responsible for managing the practice\'s staff and budgets, developingits business strategy and making sure that everything runs smoothly.

Youwill need both good general management and managing peoples\' skills.

Inthis role you would need to be an excellent organiser. You would needaccounting and budgeting skills. You would also need business planning skills. Youwill provide leadership and management skills to enable the practice to meetits agreed aims and objectives within a profitable, efficient, safe andeffective working environment. At all times the post holder must act in amanner consistent with the NHS code of conduct and lead by example.

About us

We are a friendly, high-achieving training practice with a patient list size of 7,300. Our team consists of 5 doctors, a nursing team of 3, a Clinical Pharmacist as well as good admin support. We pride ourselves on our friendly, supportive environment for both patients and staff and an extremely low staff turnover.

Job responsibilities

JOBRESPONSIBILITIES:

Managementand planning

  • Contributeto practice and PCN strategy; formulate objectives and research and developideas for future practice and PCN development.
  • Monitor and evaluate performance ofthe practice team against objectives; identify and manage change.
  • Developand maintain effective communication both within the practice and with forginglinks with other local practices, education bodies, the LMC and relevantagencies, and in particular working collaboratively within the PCN.
  • Managepractice budgets and seek to maximise income.
  • Understandand report on the financial implications of contract and legislation changes.
  • Managepractice accounts; submit year-end figures promptly and liaise with thepractices accountants.
  • Monitorcash flow, prepare regular forecasts and report to the Partners.
  • Manageand reconcile bank accounts.
  • Monitorand reconcile income and expenditure statements.
  • ManagePartners\' drawings.
  • Manageand monitor PAYE for practice staff and maintain appropriate records.
  • Manageappropriate systems for handling and recording of cash and card payments andpetty cash.

Humanresources

  • Overseethe recruitment, retention and supervising of staff.
  • Evaluate,organise and oversee staff induction and training, and ensure that all staffare adequately trained to fulfil their role.
  • Developand implement effective staff appraisal and monitoring systems.
  • Keepabreast of changes in employment legislation.
  • Maintainup-to-date HR documentation (including job descriptions, employment contractsand employment policies).

Organisational

  • Convenemeetings, prepare agendas and ensure distribution of minutes as necessary.
  • DevelopPractice protocols and procedures, review and update as required.
  • Ensurethat the Practice premises are properly maintained and cleaned, and thatadequate fire prevention and security systems are in place.
  • Developand review Health and Safety policies and procedures and keep abreast ofcurrent legislation.
  • Ensurethat the Practice is compliant and suitably prepared for inspections byexternal bodies such as CQC.
  • Arrangeappropriate insurance cover.
  • Ensurethat the Practice has adequate disaster recovery procedures in place.
  • Arrangeappropriate maintenance for Practice equipment.
  • Adopta strategic approach to the development and management of patient services.
  • Ensure service development anddelivery is in accordance with local and national guidelines.
  • Develop a method of increasing thepractices list size while following NHS guidelines and ensuring suitablecapacity is in place.
  • Oversee repeat prescribing systems.
  • Oversee and manage an effectiveappointments system.
  • Organise surgery timetables, dutyrotas and holiday cover.
  • Maintain an effective complaintsmanagement system.
  • Liaise with our Patient ParticipationGroup and attend regular bi-monthly meetings.

Informationmanagement and technology

  • Keepabreast of the latest developments in primary care IT and update the practicemanagement team.
  • Motivate,support and monitor staff in the use of IT; organise, oversee and evaluate IT training.
  • Settargets and monitoring standards for data entry and collection.
  • Ensurethat the practice has effective IT data security, back-up, maintenance anddisaster recovery plans in place.

Healthand Safety

  • Implementand lead on health and safety.
  • Maintainan up-to-date knowledge of health and safety and infection control statutoryand best practice guidelines and ensure implementation across the practice.
  • Identifyand report health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately whenrecognised.
