Your Impact:
As our Head of Commercial, you will be accountable for gross profit margin and commercial elements across all pre-contract activity at Planteria. You will build, lead, and continuously elevate a best-in-class commercial function, ensuring consistency. Your core mission is to design, implement, and embed a robust Commercial Operating System and Commercial Playbook that brings structure and commercial excellence to every opportunity.
You will:
- Create and own the Commercial Playbook, including golden processes for success, client driver identification, solution shaping, pricing strategy, product, design and technical best practice, and case studies.
- Capture, standardise, and formalise all pre-contract commercial processes into a clear Commercial Operating System (COS) covering sales stages, governance and approvals, pricing authority, project assurance, forecasting, and handover standards.
- Ensure the COS is fully understood, consistently adopted, and continuously improved across the business.
- Lead, develop, and raise the standard of the commercial team by setting clear expectations, quality benchmarks, and accountability, acting as the senior commercial authority on major or high-risk opportunities.
- Develop and embed commercial project ratings within a Project Assurance framework.
- Own pipeline governance, CRM discipline, and forecast accuracy, driving improvements in sales quality, portfolio health, and downstream delivery outcomes.
- Take ownership of commercial sign-off for client contracts.
- Be fully accountable for the quality, accuracy, and completeness of handovers from Commercial into Operations, ensuring projects are correctly scoped, fully specified, and ready for delivery.
You will be a great fit if you have:
- Proven commercial leadership experience, with the ability to design, embed, and continuously improve systems, standards, and ways of working.
- Excellent commercial and financial judgement, with a deep understanding of margin, cashflow, risk, and contract structures.
- The ability to think strategically while remaining highly practical, hands-on, and delivery focused.
- A strong process design, documentation, and governance mindset, with the confidence to bring structure, clarity, and consistency to complex or fast-moving environments.
- Experience operating in project-based, fast-moving environments.
- A pragmatic, practical approach to leadership and problem solving.
- Excellent stakeholder management and experience in collaborating with Sales, Design, and Operations.
- Strong coaching and people development skills with high emotional intelligence.

Line Managers are responsible for promoting a safe working environment and ensuring their team follows Health & Safety policies. They provide guidance, training, and supervision, ensure risk assessments and safe systems of work are followed, address hazards promptly, report and support investigations of incidents, ensure staff have proper equipment and PPE, and lead by example to foster a positive safety culture.
Way of working: This is an office-based role located at our HQ in Henham with the option to work 1 day from home. Quarterly company bonus and annual performance-related bonus. BUPA Cash plan. Learning and Development opportunities. Lunch provided at our offices. 25 days holiday.
