What You’ll Be Doing
The purpose of the Beverage Technologist role is to lead reactive and proactive projects that showcase Plant-Ex’s flavour, colour and extract ingredients to beverage customers. Trialling and testing innovations from the NPD team, this role will bring a creative, innovative and problem-solving mindset to sample preparation and product trials, with a primary focus on beverage applications and scope to work across other categories. Work closely with the NPD and Sales teams to deliver exciting concepts to customers, get out from behind the bench to present work on-site, and build a comprehensive, descriptive product library - actively seeking out gaps in our offering and opportunities to innovate. Develop application recipes and trial ingredients in customer formulations, all while keeping up to date with food and beverage trends and legislation. Trial and test flavours, colours and extracts developed by the Plant-Ex NPD team in beverage applications across the key beverage areas: Liquid soft drinks, Powdered drinks, Dairy drinks, Protein-based drinks, Low, mid and high alcoholic drinks. Lead reactive and proactive projects for food and beverage applications, showcasing Plant-Ex ingredients and supporting customers' product development goals. Work closely with Plant-Ex colleagues in Turkey, Poland and the USA in helping deliver key beverage project briefs and communicating between sites ensuring maximum product knowledge is captured and shared. Build and maintain a comprehensive, descriptive product library, actively identifying gaps in the range and opportunities to innovate. Create application recipes and prepare samples for customer presentations, working closely with marketing and commercial teams. Present trial results and product recommendations to customers, including on-site visits to customer sites. Contribute to sensory and organoleptic panels for flavours, colours and extracts.
The Ideal Candidate
This is an exciting opportunity for a technical professional with experience in the food or beverage industry to take their next career step within a growing SME. Experience with flavours, colours or natural ingredients would be highly advantageous. We’re looking for someone who has:
- Previous technical experience within the food or beverage industry
- A good understanding of food and beverage formulation and production at industrial scale
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidelines relating to flavours, colours, natural extracts and botanical ingredients
- Strong project management skills and excellent attention to detail
- A creative, solutions-focussed approach and a willingness to embrace new technologies and industry trends
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a good proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
- The ability to work confidently both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
